Sorry in advance if I am derailing this thread, but I have a question which pertains to the original post: I was never aware that there were two varieties of Xenon headlights equipped from the factory. How would I go about identifying which version I have?

You likely have the standard AL headlights for your M3 that are the same as the 2002-2003 Coupes with the slight difference in where the ballasts are mounted for the M3.

Thank you for the information! Now to get my hands on some clear lenses, I miss the crisp cutoff from my old retros.

I bought all the parts that you recommended, but I'm confused by the wiring harness and can't seem to find any info on exactly how to install it. I want to make sure I got the right one. The harness has 4 leads coming out from the relays.

1.) Positive wire with fuse, self-explanatory (no pic)

2.) Not sure. Is this the harness's signal input from the car? If so, where do I plug this in?

3 and 4) I'm assuming these plug into the ballasts and I attach each one's ground lead to their own separate ground near that headlight...

You plug pic 2 into your original light bulb connector. Use your best judgement for polarity based on the wire's color. Pic 3-4 do plug into the ballasts.

Oh so do I just remove the spade thing and plug it into one of the original low beam plugs? Does it matter which one?

and why did they include those weird spade connectors already on there? just to confuse me!?

Thanks. For some reason it didn't dawn on me that I had to remove that part from the harness. I was thinking it had to go to the fuse box or something.

What kind of ballast would I need if I am going to be doing FX-R 3.0 projectors, E46-R shrouds, and D2 lights?

Get a high quality ballast such as Denso or Matsushita from TRS.
