Does it shake at the same speed when it happens? Does it shake after applying the brakes? A little more information regarding the conditions under which the shaking occurs would be helpful. It could be a number of things ranging from your tires, to your suspension, to your brake components.

it shakes randomly. itll shake anywhere from 20 to 60mph but then sometimes it doesnt. and sometimes itll shake then randomly stop. but then it will shake again decelerating. im probably just going to have a mechanic look at it

Most likely suspension issues going on there. Could be something as simple as struts but never heard it being that bad. How many miles on the car? Have you done any PM?

My guess is it's the wheels needing to be balanced. Sometimes you have one that's out of balance and you can rotate the wheels to isolate which one it is.

I had a similar problem when I would reach 60+ mph, I bought new wheels and the shake was completely gone.

I have this problem on my e34. Mine is getting really annoying too so I will be checking it out soon. Let me know what the mechanic tells you.

Check tire balance. Could be a bent rim.

If it rolls smooth some of the time and then for some reason starts shaking? It's a sure sign of suspension issues and my bet is the struts are toast!

1. See if the balancing weight fell off
2. Check if you have warp rotors or a calliper that's sticking
3 check the whole control arm inner ball joint outer and bushing
4. Sway bar link ends
5.tie rod assembly
6.see if you tire have uneven wear
7.check your struts

I also have this intermittent problem! I have an e46 and it happens at 60-70mph only sometimes and I can't figure it out, the steering wheel shakes like you have a flat tyre then goes away.
Surely if it was a damaged wheel /tyre it would do it all the time? Iv checked all the suspension components and all I came up with is the driver side wheel was toeing in too much but I doubt that is the problem also with it being intermittent.....
Can you keep me posted on what you come up with ?
