BMW kidney grill through the years

BMW kidney grill through the years

@BMWUSA: The evolution of the #BMWKidneyGrille at the #BMW brand store in Paris

Quote:
The two-section, rounded radiator grille - known as the kidney grille - was first seen on the BMW 303 at the 1933 International Motor Show in Geneva and evolved during the course of time into one of the most distinctive BMW design features. Over decades the characteristic kidney grille has been interpreted in many different ways and still characterises the unmistakeable face of every BMW vehicle.

There was a time when the kidney grills were becoming smaller and were nearly going extinct on BMW. Then I guess BMW realized that it's those kidney grills that really make up the values for its brand. Since then kidney grills have been growing bigger. And if you look at the latest 7 series, the grills are even bigger than the headlights.

Pontiac introduced its "split grill" in 1939. Except for the 50's, the style continued until Pontiac's demise in 2010.
