How long should this take? Should I call the detective to see what's going on? I believe I've been patient enough.

By LAW, it can take no longer than 30 days. Unfortunately, unless you are going to lawyer up, you're up sh!ts creek. The NJ2AS (NJ 2nd amendment society) will attempt to help you (if you are a member, which I suggest you become one for a number of reasons) but generally, you just need to badger the detective. Some townships are notorios for dragging the process out. You can also file a complaint with the NJSP, but I don't know how much good that will do.

Just for reference.

NJ 2C:58-3 (Purchase of Firearms) Section f:

f. Granting of permit or identification card; fee; term; renewal; revocation. The application for the
permit to purchase a handgun together with a fee of $2, or the application for the firearms purchaser
identification card together with a fee of $5, shall be delivered or forwarded to the licensing authority who shall
investigate the same and, unless good cause for the denial thereof appears, shall grant the permit or the
identification card, or both, if application has been made therefor, within 30 days from the date of receipt of the
application for residents of this State and within 45 days for nonresident applicants.
However...

In *Adler vs. Livak 1998*, NJ Superior Court ruled that, basically, one’s local Chief of Police does not have to comply with the 30 waiting period, with regards to obtaining ones Firearms Purchasers I.D. card, if said Police Dept has not received the reports from SBI and the FBI, and that one’s local PD can simply deny an application if said reports are not received within this 30 day period all in the good name of *Public Policy*.
Like JJ said, plan your future, and get the hell out of these full retard states. Im in the process of doing so.

Detective just called me. My ID card is ready to be picked up. Wouldn't that normally get mailed?
