eE46 has the SMG II M5 and M6 have the SMG III. The 5 and 6 are a much more refined drive. We picked up an 09 M6 vert last year and got used to it pretty quickly. Got an 05 E46 last month and it is certainly different. More of a go cart but the SMG is much trickier to get used to. Also drove a 2013 E92 with DCT and that is the smoothest of all. I think the E46 will be the most rewarding on the track, we start out next month at Willow Springs.

I actually did a search to see if anyone had installed a III in an E46. Did not find anything. Guessing it would be cost prohibitive.

Does the smg lll have the same problems as the smg ll? Is it more of a daily driver tranny?

Difference;

SMGII - Getrag SMG II single-clutch six speed
SMGIII - Getrag SMG III single-clutch seven speed

There are a lot of differences, size, weight, individual components that are different.

The car I posted only had the pump apparently. Really curious to see how that was done.

If you have questions about the SMGIII Pump retro-fit into e46 m3 smg equipped vehicles contact MNC performance in Oceanside, NY and question away... just as a reminder this is regarding smg pump, NOT, the entire transmission setup with bell housing etc. Simply an upgrade to the stronger pump. They have done several now with no hickups.

I definitely will. I would seriously consider this if my pump went out.
