Brakes shake

I dont have OEM brakes on my 2004 E46 330xi. The brakes make my steering wheel shake when used in pretty high speeds, like 70mph+. The brakes look like they are performance ones because they are bigger pads with slots. Why would they be making my steering wheel shake? Should I be concerned?

probably not the brakes...

your symptoms are typically those of worn front control arm bushings... When were they last replaced?

I jsut baught teh car used a few months ago. I dont know when they were last replaced. How can I confirm that the bushings are the issue, and if they are how much would it cost to replace them?

The easiest way to verify this is to raise the front of the car just enough so the wheel is off the ground.

Grab the tire at 3 & 9 and try twisting the tire about its vertical axis... You should be able to see the back end of the control arm and where it is inserted into the bushing while doing this. If there is play in the wheel and play in the bushing - its time for new bushings at least.

There are three bushings to be concerned with on the arm. One of the bushings is integral to the arm - if that one is shot also, you'll need new control arms.

In my case, all three bushings on both sides were toast. New bushings, arms, etc cost around $800 from Turner (this price included new bushings pre-pressed into new carriers).

you can typically just visually inspect the cabs for wear as well. oem ones crap out pretty easily. replace them with powerflex, never have to worry again
