M3 Steering Rack on its way!!

So on my MAJOR front end rebuild just discover steering rack is leaking so F it. I ordered am M3 rack. Anyone ever install one on a XI. I found several RWD swaps. Just curious...

Also I advise anyone doing control arm bushing to SOAK all bolts for days in brake fluids. PB Blast let me down. Final removed threaded insert.

you do know the M3 steering rack is a 15.4:1 ratio and the earliest e46 is 15.5:1. Later 330s are 13.7:1, so that's the best ratio for a sporty feel.

Sorry I don't know the specifics on Xi racks but good luck. i think there was mention the automatics have a different part number than manuals?

M3 peeps sometimes switch to 330 racks. so that would suggest the m3 rack should also switch with little work. personally I would have found a 330 rack .712 which is thought to be the sportiest of the 13.7:1 ratios on 330s.
as far as i know the non-Ms had eaither a 15.5:1 ratio or a 13.7:1 ratio. M3s are 15.4:1 and 14.5:1(CSL/ZCP)

Isn't the rack and related components different on an XI than on the RWD cars? I think you're going to have to do some modifications to make this work.

Verdict is in.

M3 rack w/ low low mileage for sale $ 150 b/o

Completely different. All the forums that say they fit are BS. Even the internals are different.

Womp Womp.....

send it to The Rack Doctor. he is a regional sponsor and have only heard good things from his users.
http://shop.rackdoctor.net/category.sc?categoryId=6

if you have any questions i would be sure to call him before ordering something wrong online. he may also offer you a discount from being on the forum?? (or not since his pricing is already cheap)

yep. note that you will probably still need to swap over your inner and outter tie rods and boots. so if you think those might be worn then you will have to replace.
