asbestos in brake pads for 02 M3?

Hi all - been doing some brake work on my 02 M3 and just trying to determine if I should be concerned about asbestos in the brake dust. I've done some research online and some information would suggest that, in the last 10 years or so, BMW brake pads do not contain asbestos, but I haven't found a definitive answer on whether that applies to BMW parts or not. Does anyone know for sure if the OE brake pads contain asbestos?

I've heard that the excessive dust generated from BMW pads is carbon, not asbestos. That's another thing that I'd like to verify.

Thanks,
Bob

I'm not sure. Probably not. But if the work you're doing is generating so much brake dust that you are concerned, wear a mask anyway. I can't imagine the other non-asbestos dust in your brake pads is good to breathe anyway.

The BMW OEM pads for the E46 do not contain asbestos. (although after market pads may still contain asbestos http://www2.epa.gov/asbestos/us-fede...stos#notbanned )
Doing a quick look at RealOEM.com for brake pads for my 02/2003 production 330Ci shows this for the front pads:
