TV screen & GPS Confused, please help..

G'day Gang,

Great site, well done to all. Please excuse my lack of beemer knowledge, have just bought a nice E46 Coupe.

Now the problem.

I have a MY2004 - 2005 Registered E46 Coupe with an existing 16 X 9 colour screen and tv, but there is no NAV GPS feature. There are no modules of any kind in the rear of vehicle, just some empty slots and no cables.

My main need is a GPS function with facilities for bluetooth to play itunes library and also the need for a reversing camera. I have had an audio installer look at the factory wiring infrastructure to try and fit one of their 3rd party systems (Its one if the Chinese ones you see everywhere one Ebay), but upon removal of the existing factory colour screen, they reported that none of the cables behind were compatible with installing their new unit. They were extremely surprised as they have done many of these change overs in many E46 BMW's, but it seems that my 2005 E46 is somehow wired differently so they were unable to install their unit.

The only other variable is that it looks like my E46 Coupe has come with the factory mobile phone option, although there is no actual handset, just a cradle (where the cup holders would normally be) in the console and an electrical pin connector underneath.

So is there another 05 coupe owner out there that has the same configuration that has managed to fit one of these ALL-IN-ONE GPS SAT NAV Audio systems ...or others that simply know whats happening here?

Appreciate any feedback possible

Thanks

Glenn

Sounds like one of the POs has either removed the nav disc player and cables for some reason or more then likely the original buyer never got it included with his purchase. Or your car never came with the actual tv/radio and was installed by a previous owner as your car might have just had a business CD/radio player.

The reason why the installers could do it is because you need to have the GPS antenna to attach that aftermarket unit to and without that they can't do it. You would need to buy a unit that contains a GPS antenna and you should be fine. Or buy a kit that's for the replacement of the business cd unit.

I could be wrong so if I am someone correct me but I'm pretty sure that would be why.

My '04 Coupe has the 16:9 TV with Bluetooth Phone Cradle in centre console from factory; I can help you with pairing your phone, however if your car didn't come with Sat Nav from factory you will need to retrofit one.

Not all cars with 16:9 screen came with navigation. Cheers.

That's identical to my screen, without all the dead pixels! Cars with OEM Sat Nav have a different interface, so we can confirm your car doesn't have nav equipped. Would need to retrofit.

My Ride: 2003 BMW 325i
I have a 2003 BMW 325i Sedan (Australia) and it came with factory CD changer, TV(analog), Radio and Bluetooth. I checked if the car was pre-wired for Navigation and it wasn't. Also my interface as same as the one above.

What i need to know is the correct wiring harness I would need to do the MK4 DVD navigation retrofit in my car. I have looked everywhere on the internet and even got in touch with BMW Australia for a part number but they haven't been able to help.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

if you have the factory screen in your coupe, then you will find that the radio module will be in the boot,on the left hand side behind the trim panel, to fit a dynavin or one of the very similar chinese head units found on ebay, you would need an extension wiring harness that is about 6m long otherwise known as a "fakra cable" to extend the antenna and fakra connector from the boot to the headunit in the dash this is a much easier and less expensive option than trying to retrofit an outdated bmw nav unit to your car and the end result will be far superior:

ps: I know this because I have done the exercise
