Just bought my first BMW Convertible!

This is M.Y. 2001 with 120k miles. It was a nice little old lady's summer toy car. She bought it brand new, had it for 11 years then bought a new 335i convertible, so she was selling this one.

I hesitated a while because of the high mileage and price. But the hard top, impeccable interior (even the side bolster has zero rips), good service records, size and weight of the previous owner (Hey, it matters. So much less wear and tear on the seat and the car in general, if it's been owned by a 300lbs 6"5 football player vs 130lbs 5" lady) and just the environment where this car spent the last decade in., won me over. I paid $7500 for it.

I figured the hard top ($1500), new tires ($500) would make this a pretty good deal... spotless CARFAX, and the car in general, appear to be very well cared for. It's got scratches and door dings, but well.... it's a 12 year old car...

So I brought it home, and gave it a good clean up with 303 Aerospace protectant.

I've had a 2005 Mini Cooper S JCW convertible before. Blast to drive, full of character and etc, but my wife just couldn't learn the manual transmission. I had to draw a line somewhere... I want a toy car that the whole family can enjoy... Sold the MCS JCW, and landed on this automatic tranny BMW. My daughter is couple years away from driver's license, so this car *just might be* her first car down the road.

My list of things to do for now....

-iPod/AUX adaptor (bought GROM from a member here)
-Rear Shocks (they are bad - DIY job)
-Oil filter housing gasket (There's some leak on the driver's side bottom pan. It's not a puddle but something's leaking, and I'm betting that's it)
-Oil level sender (yellow warning light for 10 secs when I start the car - will deal with it when I do the housing gasket)
-Install a DIY Hard top hoist in the garage (using a 2000lbs ATV winch)

I want to keep everything in stock form, as much as possible. May be the Angel Eye mod but that'd be about it.

Wow great find. I bought mine for the same reason...the hardtop. The only difference I bought mine crash and built it myself. Check out the link in my signature so you can see it.
