2001 330xi rack and pinion...newbie... help!!..lol

hello all... any suggestions on a reputable site i can buy a rack and pinion for my vehicle... any help would be much appreciated..thanks in advance...

No problem man. I might do mine this weekend with udm e46 enthusiast granted it didn't ran and flood like crazy. A rack from them is wayyyyy cheaper than paying 1000+ from another site. U get new inner tie rods as well. Good price imo

dont know if this is the right thread to post about this but... being that i am replacing the rack and pinion. i also need to replace the power steering pump as well correct? sorry if that sounds like a stupid question...hahahah

the power steering pump is a separate unit. it's not a bad idea to flush it clean being the reservoir has the filter built in(another separate unit). but you do not need a new power steering pump unless the old one is bad.

which leads me to the next question, how do you know your rack is bad? it's more common for the power stering pumps to go bad causing the power steering to feel ultra tight and non responsive. the bmw power steering pumps can have the impellar shaft (where the pulley for belt connects) come apart and move in and out.

im going by what the mechanic told me. im not mechanically inclined.
i got a quote from him for $1700.00!!!.my uncle is a mechanic and will be doing the work for me. i ordered the rack from rackdoctor. they told me i should receive it Friday. comes out to 260 after sending him back my rack. thanks to everyone with the recommendation!
