Tired of waiting on Vorshlag...need upgraded rear options for V8-powered E46

About a year ago, I bought an E46 323 with a Procharged SBC in it. It has a built 700R4 but a stock 323ci rear. It hasn't broken yet at the track mainly because of a sloppy torque converter being forgiving, and I haven't tried to break it by "going for broke" on the launch party because I can only burn out one drag radial, lol. Despite that, it still managed a 1.592 60' babying it off the line so it has the potential to move out hard.

I have 96 lb injectors and a smaller pulley ready to go on the F1R, and I expect to start making some pretty serious power soon. I want to do a 4-link setup or a Ford 8.8 or whatever is easiest and will handle the power and put it to the ground. The car is just a toy to go drag racing with and cruising to car shows. I don't intend to drive the car on a road course, so I'm not that concerned about keeping an IRS setup for handling purposes. Vorshlag has been talking about doing a kit to do a Ford 8.8 for about a year now, and nothing has materialized, and I'm tired of waiting.

Is something like what I'm describing easy to fabricate? Any leads or further ideas?

not very easy nor very difficult.

I would do the following swap:
E46 M3 diff / diff carrier / OS Giken LSD
E46 M3 rear upper and lower trailing arms
E46 Rear chasis reinforcement
E46 M3 axles reinforced by DSS
E46 M3 rear trailing arm bushing limiter kit
Propeller shaft needs to be custom made.

Just put these onto E46 3.23, will be a direct fit and you will be happy. I did this swap on E46 XM3.

Thanks for the feedback, and I realize what you propose is an option, but I would think that for the cost of all that, I could have something fabricated locally that would be far stronger and cheaper. Just wondering if anyone has experience in this.

domestic rear ends will be stronger for sure, but you ll need custom fabrication and installation which will add to the cost.

you can buy a complete E46 M3 for 800 $.

That's amazing. Curious to see the dash cluster and everything else. And does everything actually work?. Traction control, etc? lol.

Gauges were all replaced by digital gauges in the dash by the guy who built the car but never really finished it. When I bought it, it drove but wasn't making any power due to boost leaks, bad tuning (using older FAST EFI conversion) and a host of other problems. I don't regret buying it though because as a whole, the swap was done quite well and I got a good deal.

The blower is an F1R which flows 2,000 CFM, so it is certainly capable of 1,000 HP and now we will have the fuel to support it. Just need a better differential solution, hence the thread.

And no, no traction control, lol.

Trap speed is low that pass because the ratchet shifter for the 700R4 was acting up. I think that pass it went right from 3rd to overdrive which killed the back end power since the revs were so low. Mid-9-second GTR (Alpha 9+) making me look slow, lol

The M3 rear end will work well of course. If you bought that you need to make sure it comes with diff, rear axles, subframe and drive shaft. That'll make it fit no problem. I actually plan on doing a full M3 rear swap on my car soon as well and have already helped a friend or two do an M3 rear end swap as well.

Yeah, I would just hate to do the swap and break it. I broke axles with my AA Stage 2 E46 M3 and had to get DSS axles, but that was with a clutch and drag radials shocking them. The auto is pretty forgiving in that department.

You can always reinforce the M3 rear end yourself if your handy with a welder and buy different bushings/bolts. I reinforced my own rear end at the moment and welded some things here and there on my own. Seems to be holding the power very well so far.
Before I broke the bolts holding the axle to the diff. Happened to me twice. I replaced the bolt with aftermarket ones not OEM ones and used reinforcement plates between them. Same goes for the drive shaft.
