Exclamation M54 Engine Idle RPMs?

Guys, what is the normal engine idling RPM on a M54 engine and does it changes on the cold start? Mine sits at about 650-750RPM and in cold goes nearly 1500RPM, is that normal?

No. Mine idles at ~650-750rpm all the time, all year round, at all engine temps.

Mine sits at 550-600, no idea why it's so low. In the cold it starts at 900ish and slowly drops to the same 550-600 as any other time of year as it warms up.

Thanks Repoman89, do you suffer the Jolt on cold start like mine if your RPMs are increasing in that scenario?

Not sure what you mean by RPM increasing - I meant it starts near 900-1000 and if I sit there parked, it slowly drops to 550-600 as the engine gets to operating temp. It's normal for it to start high but it should drop to normal levels.

To answer anyway though, no jolt on start or ever really. It does shake very slightly for 10 seconds or so if it's cold out and then smooths out. No misfires or codes so I have no idea what causes that, and it doesn't do it if I just start driving.

On cold starts mine will hover above 1k, after about 45 seconds, drops to 700. However, i have programmed mine to do this.

Has BMW published what should be the idle RPM on a M54 engines? I have various people saying it goes from 550-750 and the cars are running fine. So what exactly should be the RPM on the engine? I am experiencing engine vibration at idle and being lead to believe it is related to RPM increase to 750.
