5 Speed Swap

Here's the deal;

I've finished the swap, but I'm wiring the car right now.

The pedal assembly I got came with 2x 3-wire clutch sensors, and all of the DIY's have 4-wire sensors.

Has anyone had experience with this?

I was able to contact Bavarian Automotive Recycling about getting the correct clutch sensor and clutch master cylinder, but I am worried that something else isn't wired correctly.

Here's where I'm at;

-The modules in the car have been recoded.
-The TCU has been removed/unplugged.
-Automatic transmission had 1 plug, which I believe means it's a 'GM' transmission.
-Clutch master cylinder is on order with the correct 4-wire sensor.
-I have a wire running to pin #23 on the ECU as described in the many DIY threads, but it's not plugged in yet.

Just now, I tried to connect EWS Pin #8 to the purple/yellow wire on the brake sensor plug to see if it would start, nada. (I'm also worried I may not have made a good enough connection to pin #8, and I can't think of a good way to test the plug.)

Should I be worried that the car won't start if I wire it as described above ^ (to the brake sensor plug), or should I chill out and wait patiently for the correct clutch master cylinder to arrive?

I would say code the EWS module w/ the euro settings (no clutch interlock) and see if it starts

That's not a bad idea.

The traction control light stays on when I turn the key. Is that normal?

I did this swap last April. The coding and wiring was the hardest part. Here is how I did it last year:

I hope this is somewhat helpful to you -- my brother did the hardwiring of the clutch, so I don't have any experience with that, I'm afraid. I did all the coding, however.

Hey there Zachdog, I actually used your tutorial to code Jimmyloose's car for him (close friend of mine). I got lost a little bit in your directions on post 172, but managed to get her coded! I only coded the Kombi (cluster), and the DME . If not the DME, it was something else, what I do remember was only coding two items with the new SA code. It was pretty nice to see that gear light go off. Right now we're just stuck at the clutch switch. I'd code the car to take off the clutch detection like the EU cars but I won't be able to get over there again until the weekend. We are just hoping the part comes in soon and everything works.

UPDATE: Part came in.

I've wired everything up as in IveGotIssues666 instructed;

Clutch Switch:

Pin 1 - Goes to Ground (At Brake Light Switch)
Pin 2 - Goes to the DME connection at A60004 pin 23
Pin 3 - Goes to 12v+ (At Brake Light Switch)

It's connected in parallel to the Clutch Switch Module which is mounted on the side of the clutch master cylinder.

Clutch Switch Module:

Pin 1 - Goes to Ground (At Brake Light Switch)
Pin 2 - Goes to the DME connection at A60004 pin 23
Pin 3 - Goes to 12v+ (At Brake Light Switch)
Pin 4 - Goes to EWS Pinout #8


I checked the electrical connections, and they're all good.

Stevo it looks like you have to come back to the OC to help me diagnose/fix this.

Ballsack.

Module is installed, but the car won't start.

The car is throwing code 128- EWS-transmission-parity (something like that).

All of the modules were recoded, but the EWS is still looking for the automatic transmission. What's going on?

Ok, jimmyloose is at work and I got his car started this morning. I disabled e46 NEUTRAL_EINGANG (clutch pedal bypass) and the car started right up, which means he's got some re-wiring to do when he gets home. I'd take the car for a spin but he forgot to bleed the clutch when he installed the new module! Soooo hope to get this show on the road tonight!

Oh, and now that I added the clutch pedal bypass, his car isn't throwing any codes! Just a wiper fluid light due to his broken reservoir
