Man I still don't have LR4 yet. lol I guess I will skip and go to LR 5

from PC mag .. The new release lacks the kind of head-turning new major features like Lightroom 4's introduction of Maps, but it's a worthy improvement over its predecessor, adding useful tools like a more capable healing brush, new perspective corrections, Smart Previews for more efficient editing, and video slideshow creation.

I saw a review that it has just a few minor upgrade features compared to LR4...not sure if its worth for 4 users. I'm in the same boat, did not buy LR4, so 5 should be decent..

Someone want to explain to me what benefits LR offers over Photoshop?

I stupidly bought LR4 a year or so ago and don't even use it. Could be because I don't know the right way to use it but that's besides the point.

I think Photoshop benefits over LR - I just don't need all the extra bell's and whistle PS has.

LR does is nice to organizing everything, but its not as powerful.

LR4 was a huge step up from 3, so it will be nice to see some more changes in this version.

The advantage of PS is layers. However the lightweight LR manages to do this most of what PS does without the layers and costs about 1/4 the price of PS.

Agreed PS is the Ultimate tool to have in your arsenal, most of us do too. But I rarely seem to be opening to PS, may be because I can do most of it in LR(3) and within less time too. Also LR is very good at copying setting from one pic to the entire set. With PS though, you need to go through a bit more.

If the picture has severe flaws and distracting elements, its much harder or impossible to fix using LR, while PS will do it easy. Though this may change with the heal brush in LR4.

End of the day, $150 for LR is good investment especially for enthusiasts who want to save some $$$

You should follow Lightroom Killer Tips and Adam Learner on Youtube. That will get you started.

A lot of times I use LR because I still can't tell if my photos in camera are too dark or not. I shoot a lot of low light, so reading the histogram is out of the question. But I can edit in LR, bump up the highlights or fill light without changing the skin tones.

Right I have set in LR, when I upload a batch of photos (i.e. 200 RAW images), It will automatically add an adjustment for me. This way I can adjust only those that need it.

^ I'll give those two a view. I do honestly think that it's mostly that I don't know how to use it properly but I don't shoot professionally or even all that much anymore so batch processing isn't a huge deal to me.

anyone know how to transfer library catalogs from version to version?

I had LR3 on my PC then moved to Mac with LR4, and didn't move my entire catalog over (it ended up being saved on an external)

but if I am looking at getting LR5, can I move my entire catalog in from LR4??

I'm not sure so I googled since I will be doing it too soon. Now I'm guessing you can do the same when you move to newer version. So I googled "how to move catalog from LR3 to LR4".

try this
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/whats-new-...develop-module

I found the link on this site
http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2012/04...ightrom-4.html

here is another one. idk if that would work

It will automatically convert the catalog for you. I just did it last night without issue.

If you use a Mac, subscribe to the RSS feeds from Lightroom Killer tips. I saw this in my mailbox today.

http://lightroomkillertips.com/?p=4951

Some days I forget to go the website... The RSS feeds in my mailbox keeps everything organized so that I can read later. They also post presets you can try.
