Hard Start issue until gas is pushed. Cannot figure out culprit

Hello ,

Looking for some help on this problem, 2004 330i with 150,000 kms. Problem is when I start the car it has a hard time starting, once the gas pedal is pushed it will start no problems, some smoke will blow out of the exhaust and then run fine. No codes have been thrown. Sometimes it starts without issue. I have noticed that the warmer weather will make it harder to start. This is what I have done to remedy the issue, obviously without luck.

New plugs wires
CCV and new pipes
Changed rubber elbow
Had injectors sent for cleaning, testing and new o-rings. Was told all was good.
Vanos rebuilt
New spark plugs
new fuel pump
New fuel filter

Could it be a ECU/DME issue? If anyone has any ideas it would be a great help.

Thanks

I came in here prepared to tell you that is was likely a fuel filter issue, because I had the exact same thing. But, I see you replaced the filter.
So, did you replace the rubber lines to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel filter? There is a rubber line from the F connector in the intake elbow that attaches to a hard line that runs under the car, and a second rubber line from the hard line to the fuel pressure regulator on the filter. Just a guess on my part.

A crack in the hose may reduce fuel pressure.

Well, I cant say for sure that it would, but it certainly will cause problems if it is leaking.
You should check out jfoj's link on engine misfires and general misfire and driveability problems: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...616&highlight=

Welcome to my world. Had same symptoms, have also a separate fresh thread, called The epic battle against warm start problems...I also managed to start the engine only by pressing the gas pedal. Changed spark plugs, relays, battery, checked fuel pump, key....finallh, it seems it was the electrical starter, which I ignored completely out of the equation, making no specific sound...also had no errors, all tested fine.

Refurbished the starter, at a local workshop, in couple of hours and voila,...back to life.
Do the following test, if you have manual gearbox...start the car by being pushed or towed (safer being pushed)...if it will start and keeps running fine, while your battery has been tested/replaced, I bet you will have the same enemy...the electrical starter..
