Buying a car in NC if from SC?

Buying a car from a private seller in NC. I live in SC. What steps do I take? I already got the certified check. What else must i do before i go get it and what do i bring? Espesually insurance wise. Do i need to call insurance company before I go get it or will my old insurance card be fine? Just dont want go get there and they say they cant switch title over without insurance. Also old plate is fine correct?

From a dealer or private? I'd reccomend putting it on your insurance as soon as you're sure you'll be buying it. The old plate will get you home, although it could be iffy if you get pulled over. As long as you have the bill of sale, title, and insurance, you can essentially drive it home without any plates at all and be fine.

Where in NC?
