Time for a Suspension Upgrade

Current suspension on my 135k mile 328 needs to be replaced...

What I'm looking for...
- comfortable/smooth ride (comparable, if not, better than OEM)
- Similar ride height or an adjustable set-up
- NOT trying to buy OEM

From what I've gathered from here and other various forums, my best option for what I want in a suspension system is some kind combination of aftermarket springs and struts (not a coil-over system). Soo, I was just looking for some feedback from anyone who feels that they have a smooth riding bimmer with an aftermarket set-up or components from another BMW. Obviously, I don't want to sacrifice any performance so I'm willing to spend the money on a good system as long as it doesn't surpass the OEM replacement price.

P.S....If you're going to comment on here that I should just get a different car because these cars are supposed to be stiff and slammed to the ground just spare me the bs. I travel a lot, love this car, and I don't have the time or money to buy a more luxurious automobile. Also, the route to my current job includes a road beat to shitt by logging trucks all day every day.

Sounds like Koni FSDs and stock springs are right up your alley.

+1

or bilstein touring shocks are good too.
If you are on a budget then Koni STR.T's have good ratings as well.
Just include the shock and strut mounts when you have the suspension out. You dont want to do the whole job again in case your mounts give up.

Touring is going to be softer than HD. HD is designed to be beefier and for occasional off-road use.

Off road use? Do you mean gravel roads or back trails? Lol!

+2 on the Bilstein Touring and stock springs. I have the Bilstein HD with H&R race springs on my E36, stiff as HELL.

Would anyone suggest some springs if I were to try and get a small drop, but as similar of a ride to stock zsp/zhp as possible. I'm gonna use bilsteins sport shocks/struts.

Yeah that kind of stuff. They're more suitable for rough roads and things like that.

Maybe get the Bilstein kit with Eibach springs?? Im looking into beefing my suspension up as well and have seen two non-coilover options that appear by the general consensus to be the best:

Koni FSD/eibach springs
Bilstein HD/Eibach springs

While I have yet to install either setup, I have spoken with Drew at Swit Motorworks and he told me that the Koni's would be a softer ride. I have also seen that anyone with HR springs has a rough ride and eventually moves to the coilovers anyway.

As far as ride height, I havent seen many people go lower than 1.1" all the way around after settled. Again, I have no experience with either setup but after reading on this topic for awhile now, these are my findings.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280908256790

so I after researching suspension stuff all day yesterday, I've read from bmw, porsche, volkswagon, and even honda forums, that the PSS/PSS9/PSS10 Bilstein coil overs offer everything I'm looking for but can be rather pricey...but I did come across that ebay link (above) posting the PSS10 for only $1550 (compared to $1850-$2300 from other sites) and i figured id be spending around $1000 no matter what set-up i end up choosing so i might as well splurge a little bit (also this suspension kit will keep me on pace to one day make the track car ive always wanted). that being said, i do feel suspicious about the price difference but the ebay seller does have quite a few sales (5k+) and 100% approval rating so I think i'm going to take my chances and pull the trigger a little later today. I also plan on buying new shock & strut mounts for the front and read (thank you Tbone8ty and try), if you guys can think of anything else I'm missing or any reason why i shouldn't buy from that ebay seller, hope to hear from you by noon! thanks guys for all your input
