Pre market prices

If you go to CNN Money or other sites , there is a link for pre-market and after hours prices.

They give the projected market prices for the opening bell for the Dow Jones Industrials, S and P 500 etc..........

They give 'fair market value' and level.

The difference is usually a point or two.

Is the difference considered a margin of error ?
What does it represent ?

Fair value is just a calculation that gets done in the evening. The difference between that and "level" (the actual pre-market value) shows if the pre-market action is indicating a rise or fall in the index.
