Seeing as this thread more or less took the place of the style thread, I was hoping for some thoughts on getting a leather field jacket tailored... And if anyone knew what might be possible.

Back around november or so there was a Marc Jacobs leather field jacket I was quite fond of for sale, however it had a less than perfect fit even in small, and cost a pretty penny, so I abstained. Well I've just found one new on ebay in size small for half the original price. My question being, are leather jackets something easily tailored? And if so, how far can you go with it?

This is the jacket in normal fit.

And this was it on me,

Is it possible to suck the waist in on a leather jacket? I know the sleeve's can be done... Just not sure about the waist.

Yes, as long as you find someone capable working with leather
I had a leather jacket I wanted to tailor ... but never really bothered to seek someone out
My regular tailor didn't want to mess with leather so I didn't try

Can? Yes.
Easy? No.

So while browsing the nordstroms sale I keep seeing John Varatos shoes and am wondering...Are they worth the money or as hyped as I think they are?

I'd give the nod to Rick Owens.

If you want "better" Chucks, Jack Purcell is the way to go. They look better (in my opinion) and are considerably more comfortable.

no because at least rick owens is considered "avantgarde" in some circles. varvatos just makes clothes for douches and old dudes that want to feel rock and roll. my 64 year old dad wears varvatos converse that his girlfriend bought him. 'nuff said.

Rick Owens makes $500 drop-crotch sweat pants worn by Justin Bieber and $1000 sneakers that look like PF Flyers on acid.

I ordered three suits (from the Essentials line, nothing super nice but more than adequate after tailoring,) a few repp ties, a pair of AE Fifth Avenues, and a belt strap to go with a belt buckle my dad got me.

I've been on the road almost all of June, visiting our larger clients. I'll be visiting San Fran and Boston this fall. Will be looking for input on things to see after hours.
