Home invasion in Millburn, NJ. [WARNING: This is very disturbing and probably NSFW.]

I can't imagine this happening to my girlfriend.

Seeing this just makes me angry. It makes me angry and sick. I tried telling my girlfriend over and over she needs to learn to shoot proficiently and not be afraid of handling a firearm. She keeps saying, "I have my baseball bat and Jack (our dog)." A baseball bat won't do her any good and our dog is a giant sissy.

My blood is boiling right now.

A baseball bat is hard to maneuver in tight quarters, plus, each swing takes WAAAAY too long.

I think it's funny if I have to come home late for any reason (trip to the store, out with buddies, just driving, etc.) and she's watching TV with the baseball bat in bed next to her.

"Sweetheart. That .357 magnum would knock the intruder back from the door, onto the ground, and make him call you daddy."
"I know..."

For those of you who saw my thread in the gun forum a while ago, she's a damn good shot. I just need to convince her to go to the range with me more often.

Show her this video. I trained my wife how to shoot. We go to the range regularly. If the worst happens, it's true that she may not be able to get to it, but at least the option is there. That's worth a little peace of mind.

Just remember to teach her firearm safety. That's the most important thing.

She took the NRA First Steps course, so the basics are there. I just need her to practice it regularly.

Right. But again... you weren't, her husband wasn't either, none of you were.

Everyone COULD have done something.

Maybe she's just getting selective

It won't really matter. He'll be let out in a few months (if convicted) and just do it again. The only thing we can hope for is that he gets shanked in prison.

Or it's a brain tumor.

Which is why everyone should be prepared to defend their own life at all times. "Ohh just dial 911 and wait for the super-professional police to arrive!". That plan works out particularly well when you can't reach a phone...god some people are dense

That'd probably kill me inside. But she just got back from the vet for her yearly checkup and she's in excellent condition.
