I ran into that problem too when I had to take my car in for smog a couple of weeks ago. The guy just simply refused and told me to leave....

So I went to a smog station couple blocks down and they didnt care about my aftermarket intake. They smogged it, passed, and got it $10 cheaper than the guy who refused me offered.

Oh yeah...go on craigslist. I saw some poster selling CARB stickers for your intake lol

My Ride: has a childseat coco
When I went for my smog check, the Technician just looked at my Intake's (I have ECIS) Carb Sticker and tinkered around to see if the ECIS was really smog legal. He never checked my exhaust set up.

I have a GruppeM also, and failed the visual because of the intake. Also even tho it's technically a K&N, there is no carb number for the GruppeM. So I just went home, stuck the old intake on and got it smogged & passed with no problems.

But that's a good idea, get a hold of a K&N carb sticker and put it under the hood. The tech has no idea what the afterket intake is supposed to look like, they just look the carb number up to make sure the carb number is legit.

My old 94 Honda Accord had almost every bolt on there was, DC Headers, Greddy Exhaust, RS Akimoto intake, bored out throttle body, ignition wires, and because everything had a carb number it passed visual with no problems. The techs just had to be sure the CATs where warmed up as I sat and enjoyed the 4cylinder VTEC symphony and it would pass with no problems.

The BMW engine bay is sooo cramped that a smog tech would not notice headers on a visual, they would not notice any internal engine stuff either like cams and a ported head. Nor would they notice a supercharger like the ESS TwinScrew because it looks like it came that way from the factory.

As long as the Air Fuel ratio is fine & cats are working it will pass with all these mods.
