suspension rebuild - sitting too high

Iím embarrassed to even ask this cuz Iíve probably overlooked something obvious. And Iím not a novice at this stuff. But, here it goes. On my 2001 330XI Iíve rebuilt the front and rear suspension, new HD Bilsteins shocks and struts, A-arms, swaybar links, ball joints/bushings (only the outers), FCABs, and RCABs. Stock springs remain. Post rebuild, the car is sitting ~1.5Ē high (front and rear). I tried removing the shocks thinking they were binding but there was no difference. Checked to see if the RCABs were binding, but theyíre good too. The other suspension parts also seem fine. Springs are sitting on their perches properly too. Suspensions parts are mostly Lemforder and a few Meyle. No Chinese POS. Iíve done a rough alignment too. Has anyone experienced a similar outcome after doing a rebuild? Any ideas? The fact the car is high front and rear might be a clue as to the root cause. I've run out of ideas short of starting from square one.

BAV auto have video on their youtube channel of DIY of damper and spring install and i seem to remember them mentioning this problem although they said it with regards to the front suspension only, where the damper isn't aligned properly and therefore not seated as low as it should be. But then if your having problems in the rear also then i'm not so sure. Not meaning to sound patronising but have you checked the part no's on the actual spring & damper match what you ordered for your car?

Sorry to hear, that is frustrating after such a huge project. How much higher is the car sitting post-install? I'm unclear after reading your post. Is the front higher than the rear? Are both front and rear higher by the same amount?

My thoughts:
1. I have heard that the Bilstein's (specifically HD's) with stock springs tend to make the ride height higher than regular twin-tube shocks.
2. Another thing to consider is if you tightened everything down to spec before the car is on the ground, there can be pre-loading on some of the bushings.
3. You also could be comparing an old sagging suspension to a BRAND NEW one, so you may be seeing that difference.
