GoPro video of the week: DeepFlight Submersible - Searching for Whale Song

Renowned submersible designer Graham Hawkes and co-pilot Lee Behel go on a surreal adventure in the DeepFlight Super Falcon submersible. Using their hydrophones and their wits, our intrepid explorers cruise the underwater valleys of Hawaii in an attempt to capture whale song. The DeepFlight Super Falcon submersible was designed, built and operated by Hawkes Ocean Technologies (http://deepflight.com).

Music The Octopus Project, "Toneloop", Alex Kane, "Nebulous Aleatory Series Two"

Not the most interesting GoPro video but the footage itself is amazing. On a personal note my Hero3 Black seems to be working much better after the latest firmware update. I also picked up a set of extra batteries and have been enjoying it much more not having to worry about battery life, which is still not great.

Spent last week diving in Kona.

Other guy on the boat had a GoPro to shoot video. He bought it right before the trip.

No external light source, which is problematic even in shallow, clear water.

However, I was quite impressed with the quality of the video he captured with it. We had good visibility and most of what he shot was fairly shallow (60 ft and up for the most part). But still, to be able to get quality footage without lugging along some big video lights to punch through the water and put red back into the spectrum was amazing.

If he sends me any clips, I'll post them here.

Can somebody measure for me the GoPro mount specifications? Specifically the gap between the plastic and the thickness of the plastic.

I ask because I bought a CamOne Infinity and am looking for suction cup mounts for it.

There are red filters for the stock housing that do wonders even in a pool, and the new sensors are a lot better in low light.

if I can find my calipers I'll measure it.

Edit: plastic tabs are 3mm apart. The far tab looks to be about 2.8mm, middle tab is 3mm

Thanks bro.

Based on my rudimentary measurements, since I don't have calipers, they are the same as the ones on my CamOne. I'll buy a set to confirm.

Here's a GoPro in car video from a big race they had at the Milwaukee Mile last week:

Car in front of our car here ended up putting fluid down. You can see it if you look close at the red car. That's why our driver shut'er down and pulled out of the groove.

Warning... the following video is not entertaining, or cool, or even all that interesting. It's boring, but for sh*ts and giggles here it is. Shot for shot (minus 4 i believe that were missed from recording) from my round this morning on the course. Just picked the hero3 up yesterday. It will be more used for motorcycle racing, snowboarding, etc, however just took it out this morning for fun and ended up capturing my best ever round...uploaded in 720. A 3 hour 12 minute round ends up being ~7 minutes of swing time.

You have been warned....

You could cut a lot of that out and it would be pretty cool. Start with your initial backswing, only have the moment the club hits the ball for every other shot, and end on the follow through of your final swing.

Will go through it tomorrow and see what I can do. I have a 2.5 hour flight Wednesday too. I'll do some cropping an editing.

thought I posted this last night but guess I didn't.

GoPro released V.3.0 for the Hero 3's and V2.0 for its iphone app...

RELEASE NOTES:
This camera software update provides the following additional features and fixes:

Enables compatibility with new GoPro App features
Corrects HDMI TV preview from low res to high res
Fixes forced exposure lock on 0.5 and 1 second time-lapse intervals
Optimizes compatibility with select microSD cards by reducing data stream rate to 35Mb/sec while recording in 4K, 2.7K and Protune***8482; modes (HERO3: Black Edition only)

also, the iphone app add's wireless photo/video transfer from the GoPro right to the iphone/pad/touch into a designated GoPro album on your phone... tried it out last night, works really slick.

awesome update on both ends.

so glad they are smoothing out the bugs, GoPro's were driving me nuts for a few months there... have not had a single problem since the firmware update thou.
