I got attacked by a fish when I was snorkeling in kona once. It rammed my goggles so i started swimming away and it hit me like two more times in the body and leg. It hurt pretty good for a fish. My brother has a house in pahoa on the big island.

Because there are marvelous and fascinating creatures that live there? Or cuz you're afraid of seeing a guy shaped like me wearing neoprene?

LOL Some fish are very territorial and completely fearless, despite being small. In Palau, there was a species of triggerfish that was quite small, but was very aggressive and would nip at divers. The guides said if that fish grew as big as sharks, they'd never go in the water.

Even in warm water, I pretty much always wear a wetskin, and your experience is a big reason for that. I have pretty good buoyancy control and try to protect the reef as much as I can. But especially when taking pictures, sometimes I bump into stuff. And there's a lot of stuff down there that isn't pleasant to bump against.

Ahhh, all dudes on the boat all week. No estrogen to be found. And none of the dudes looked that good in a bikini.

I am only OW certified, but have about 170ish dives.

I'm planning to get Rescue certified so I can do some volunteer diving.

I have been to Cozumel, which is about 50 miles from Cancun. Enjoyed the diving there, but it was a long time ago. Don't know if the Cancun diving is of the same caliber.

Haven't been to Jamaica and dont know much about diving there.

Cuba is supposed to be pretty good. Many decades of authoritarian govt + lack of industry/development = mostly pristine coastline and inshore waters. I don't know about the quality of the dive operations/logistics there (training, first aid, emergency response, quality of tanks, cleanliness of compressed air, etc).

If you haven't already, you can search scubaboard.com for info about them. Just remember that it's a forum site like E46F, so take everything you read with a grain of salt. Lol

Let us know how your trip goes.
