S54 to e30 swap?

Hi all, my friend is selling his e30 318i with a 95 325i engine in it. I was wondering if it would be more expensive to buy and put an e46 m3 engine in it, or swap an e46 330 engine into it with a tranny swap. I don't know if either of these would be possible as I have not seen either. My question is, which one would be more time consuming and more expensive, considering I already have the 330ci engine but I'd have to buy the S54. Any comments are appreciated, I'm not exactly the most mechanically inclined so I thought I'd ask here before I acted on it.

S54 is more expensive. And probably more time consuming too, depending on the route you take. The M54 is hardly different from an M50, and can be run fairly well off the old 413 DMEs. Hoveringuy sells a VANOS controller to take care of that side.

That said, we do have enough information on the S54 that it can be effectively used as a stand alone with a little bit of effort.

I mean, there's this. If you can put an S54 in an E21 engine bay, you can definitely put one an E30. but the cost... It's a lot
