Ding Repair - how much?

Hi all -

I have a couple of dings (one very deep) that I have tried to touch up, but frankly look worse than when I started - just looking for a general idea of the $$ that I should expect to pay at an indy shop for repair.

One is just a large chip - no denting - the other (the one that looks like sh*t) is more like a gash that may need filler/putty.

Tnx

it's usually about $400-500 a panel for scratches and repaint. expect a little more for dent repair.

this can be done at a body shop or by a mobile painter. mobile is much faster and cheaper if you are paying cash.

Would be nice to see a pic BUT the dent can be fixed via "Dent repair" for about $100 to $175 depending on who you find. You need to goggle a source like this one http://www.thedentfx.com/contact.html Click on "examples" and check out what they can do. The 6th one down on the LH side is my '01 540i; 2 dents removed for $175 IIRC. David came to my house & fixed then in about 2 hours. You can NOT find where it was damaged. As for the paint, you have the same type guys that do "air brushing" to repair chipped paint. All the used car dealers use them all the time; inside & outside. I had the whole interior redyed on my '99 328cic for $300. good luck.

Here's one in VA that I goggled http://dentmasters.com/

I used a place called dent busters in my area. They did an excellent job. Mine got hit by hail a few years ago, a shopping cart in the fender near the front light, and a few minor door dings from people that don't know how to park or open car doors. Look in your local paper, I also had a coupon for I think $25 or 50 off. They did the entire car in one visit, dropped off in the morning picked up in the afternoon. I want to say they charged me like $350, but the charge is based on the number of dings you have them do and the diameter of the dings. So they have like a chart and then they walk the vehicle and mark off how many and size and come up with a price. To me very well worth the money to get ride of a couple of small dings.

As for chips, I have a couple in the front edge of the hood from road debris. They said they could take care of those too. They have a lady that could take care of them with an air brush and you could not tell. I didn't have them do it, as I can air brush myself and tried it on a different car in section not noticeable and it does work. Mine is black so paint matching was not hard and then buffed out.

For fun you may want to get a small sized suction cup. I did this repair on a bike gas tank. Dent was fairly sizeable, but used the suction cup on it and pulled the dent right out. The suction cup I used was bought in harbor freight, something like a 2" diameter, red with two handles, place the suction cup on the dent, lift the handles up, pull suction cup.....pop....it came out.
