Just checked disa operation by marking lever into vacuum pot with whiteout, the valve closed at idle and the mark went into the pot. When revved up slowly it shot back out at 2500 rpm. I thought it wasn't supposed to activate until 4000 rpm but its hard to say if it switches earlier if the car is revved with no load in neutral or if its something randy changed. He mentioned he played with the disa timing and that's how he got me the extra bump down low that I was missing.

When unplugged the disa stays open. It needs power to use the vacuum to close it until it reaches the activation point. So with it open I'd have no low end.

Hmm, are you sure - I thought active was the DISA closed. I might be mixed up here.

Ya just tried it. It opens when unplugged, but I do wonder if 2500 is too early for it to open when I rev it up. It's hard to say if its something randy changes or if its due to being in neutral, or maybe There's something wrong with it.

In any case, you can see what a proper changeover does for torque. I can't wait till we shark your car.

much better and easy, why don't you scan the codes in your can? if you have a bad DISA, you will have an error......

I have no codes and no a bad disa will not always show up as an error.
I've sent an email to Randy asking about the fact that its opening at 2500 RPM

Solo,I just verified that my old disa from my 328 does not open up fully if my finger is over the hole. It holds vacuum. I'd say my disa and your new disa are bad given they fail this test. I'm gonna see if I can find a decent one at the wrecker sometime and go from there.

*Edit*
Just heard back from Randy, he definitely thinks the disa has an issue.

That's a bummer. I ran that test twenty times today and it failed it every time. I guess I'll bring my backup one to the dyno this weekend.

Done already, nothing there worth getting right now. Local bmw only wrecker says 100 bucks. If that part checks out that's likely what I'll do.

After pouring through dyno's for a day, I also have a feeling that gen 3 headers could really help. Sigh, I'll have to do some saving.

Generally seem to make up to 10 whp more in spots over cars with ebay headers. Most cars making big power up top have them.

Has anyone gained 10 hp from any header? I have some BB Gen3 that I am trying to fit some SCCA STX legal high flow cats and I think 10 hp is optimistic. The headers have not been installed yet.

Headers can probably boost mid range power, but peak power isn't effected as much, if at all.

Like I said I'm seeing up to 10 whp in spots. I never saw that at peak though I did see sizeable gains that were close up there. From the little bit of information that is available, the gen 3 headers were supposed to make the best peak gains vs the gen 2's. Most of the people running the big number cars are also running those headers. In the end i really only care if they make the car faster so whether they boost peak or not, as long as the whole curve around peak is boosted, I'm happy. Now, whether I think the Bimmerbrakes copies measure up is hard to say. I have no idea if they will be as good as the originals. It will also be a while before I get to try this out.

Comparing my car with Technik V3s to a very similarly set up car with supersprints (real ones, not eBay knockoffs), we made very slightly more top end power with the V3s and it was only from 6200-6800. My car also made a decent amount more midrange torque but I attribute that more to intake manifold differences and E85.

Could be that what I'm seeing is alot of ebay supersprint vs genuine technik headers.

Neither the real supersprint or original technik is in my budget though... so, it really depends on whether the bimmerbrakes replicas stay true to the originals.
