Smile engine check light codes 8, 202, 227, 228.

Hi sorry if this has been asked a million times but i recently got the codes checked by a garage on my 320ci and it returned the following codes: 8 202 227 228. Wanted to know what to change/ check first so im not spending loads of money for no reason. I suspect the precat o2 sensors but wanted some advice. 76,000 on the clock.

Go Google OBD II codes and read what those mean for starters, then repost with codes and definitions. I'm sure you'll get the answers. Most people here use BMW specific scanners and its really asking a lot not to even include the definitions as we don't get number codes like that.

Those codes don't even sound like OBD codes. OBD codes usually begin with the letter P followed by 4 digits. What kind of shop reads the codes but doesn't diagnose?

Thumbs down

202: Fuel Trim (bank 1) 227: Fuel Control (Bank 1 Sensor 1)228: Fuel Control (Bank 2 Sensor 2) 8: mass flow air sensor.
Not sure which code reader he used..

Thanks for reply.

Car bogs down abit at low revs when changing gear if this helps.

The airbox has been derestricted with several holes in the bottom. Purchased the car with it like this and drove it for 3 months without the light coming on.

I got the lights cleared and they reappeared after 1 hour of driving.

Check the intake bellows for leaks. If it has a large enough tear, it can cause fuel trim out of range errors. Clean the MAF and reset the lights. See what happens.
