I was pretty set on going with bilstein's and h&r springs when getting to this but only skipped over most stuff but seemed like the prevailing choice of most xi owners.
With that said, didn't know there was a difference with the HD and the Sport. Anyway, to get to the point; define "moderately lowered" vs. "lowered a lot".
Is a lot an xi aspect or is a lot an aspect of coils where the car sits an inch off the ground? I mean I think I'd consider the H&R drop pretty moderate so the HD's should be fine, no?
Lastly, would the choice between Sport's and HD's make that much of a difference with the H&R springs?

Thanks in advance for all the answers ahead of time and this thread! Will surely help a lot of people and I'm sure I'll be back with more noob questions the more stuff I look up...

Just got done 2 weeks ago installing Koni yellows with H&R Sport springs. Wanted to get some driving in on them before making my opinion on them. Talked with SeattleLSB yesterday as well about the setup, and just wanted to post my thoughts for everyone contemplating their setup.

The H&R Sport Springs are a good amount stiffer than stock, I'd almost say around 25% or so. and I like the drop that they gave (Around 1.1 inches I think). It's not to much, as there is still a decent gap, but looks a lot better. I'm currently using 205/50/17 for tires (until my tires wear out). With the mild drop I'm hoping the front axle(s) and boots should have a easier time since the drop isn't to extreme. I do love how the car now feels, gives you that connection with the road kind of feeling. and with the suspension being more stiff, it corners really well with minimal body roll. I would highly suggest the combo, I love it.

Thanks for your information. I just placed an order through TireRack for a full set of Koni Yellows. Spoke with my rep (I have a wholesale account) and he told me that there are many backorders already and they are waiting to fill them. Current wait time is 3-4 weeks.

Can you mix and match the two options, say Eibach or H&R springs but keep OEM shocks/struts?

You can, but how long your OEM parts last is up for debate, they won't be around much longer though so plan on replacing them eventually. For this reason, it's not recommended to do this.

Soooo. I have just received the bilstein sport and have the eibach pro. Just dropped the old strut setup off at mechanic and now have concerns of how the spring will be installed since the sport Billie has no perch. Does the bottom perch come off the old strut assembly. Slide over the Billie? Badda bing?
Thnx

Yup... Unless you bought new spring perches.

So when mentioning e36 m3 rears, does that mean bilsteins or OEMs? Was anyone else unsure about this?

SamDoe1, thank you a thousand times over for the wealth of info. I no longer need to pour through suspension threads ever again.

Question: why has this not been made a sticky??????

Request it from the mods, more people that do that the more likely it is to get a sticky.

I apologize that I missed this before but the actual defined measurements of what "moderate" and "a lot" are in the first post of this thread along with which shocks you should get for which setup.

Feel free to come back with good questions and if they haven't already been answered in the OP, I will add them to the post.
