I drove my dad's e36 when I was younger, and fell in love with the feeling of the drive of a BMW. Once I could afford to do so, I decided to start looking, loved the look of the e46 and couldn't stand the look of the e90s. I definitely wasn't dissappointed.

It's funny, people think because we have e46's that we have a ton of money...not the case lol, we just love our cars, even when they're giving us a little trouble
This is exactly what I mean. When I first got my black 330, one of my uncles saw, and was just clueless as to why we would possibly get such an "expensive" car. (We were in a bit of a tough financial situation at that time.) The thing is, we actually take care of our cars, that's why they look like they just rolled off the lot, while other cars of our generation, and even alot of much newer and similarly cars, ('05 Corolla, '05 Sentra, Volvos, etc.) look like they belong in 2000.
I think I'm the only 15-soon-to-be-16 year old to spend a minimum of 5 hours to clean my car. And I still don't feel like it's enough.

600K houses? Dude, it's not that I don't trust you, but I can't believe that. I'm not sure about Seattle, but in ATL, you see people with houses that are worth about 145K, driving 35-40K cars.

I chose to buy an e46 because i fell in love with the look, it was my dream car ,and everything about them inside and out.....The e46? Simply amazing I'd say not to mention the inline 6 engine .....Sure it has wear and tear like any other car, but you have to take care of it. I love to work on BMWs its fairly easy, but i like it because its challenging. If your gonna buy something then why not turn a wrench or two to save some money. I don't know what it is, but when i see an e46 coupe I feel a burst of joy and just want to hop in and gas it lol. I've loved BMWs since i was eight so yeah im a bimmer freak lol.

Why Did You Choose an E46?

I choose an e46 because it was my dream car since I had knowledge of cars. I love everything about my car but if I knew what I knew now about bmws ill choose an 05 330ci ZHP, even better and 05 M3. I love working on my car, everybody ask me If my car it's really that not reliable, I just tell them that I love working on it that I don't wait till it breaks down to change something. It's all about preventive maintenance. Cheers!

I suprise people all the time when I tell them that my next car will be another e46, some people don't understand why anyone would want a 7-12 year old car...but I guess that's what makes you a fanatic.

I was in the mood for a convertible. The E46 330 cic seemed like the best one that fit my (and darling wife's) desires and budget. It is strange people think it was expensive. It was the cheapest car I've bought in over 20 years. Oh well.

Atlanta neighborhoods like Virginia Highland and Lenox Park have some pretty expensive modest houses, though I'm sure Seattle has more of them.

You have to look at things other than the size of the house to determine their wealth. I know many people who live in big developments with huge houses (which are all exactly the same) and think they are the richest around. In reality those houses are worth 200-300k tops and have no land whatsoever.

Why Did You Choose an E46?

Also some people think they are middle class and they are really upper class...

Why Did You Choose an E46?

A lot of people think our bmws are expensive cars. I was walking out to the parking lot and a co worker who just bought a 2013 accord said must be nice I need your pay check. I laughed and said I paid a lot less for my car than you did your accord. He couldn't believe it.

This one kid at my local HS was showing off his brand spankin' new Sentra. Like, base model, hubcaps, 1.8L, etc. He made fun of me, because I drove a "pre-owned" car. As I rolled by him and his groupies, I put it into neutral, and revved. (Hate Auto, but on occasion, family members may need to take my car, so had to get auto. -,-)
Thinking about getting a E36 stickshift for a beater, maybe around spring of next year.

^can not stand people like that. Even if he paid more for it than yours it just isn't worth it.

Mango's response made me love my E46 even more ..well said!

In my mind nothing else compares for the money! I love it's good looks, smooth power, broad torque band, sports car handling (I don't have an M so don't consider it a "sports car"), quality good looking interior & solid feel.

I've owned 10 cars...a couple faster, but not one that felt as solid, handled as well, as fun to drive, or maintained my interest like my E46. I've sold all my other vehicles along the way, but will never sell my E46...will definitely add another car once I have the cash in hand though...hmmm right now I'm thinking an E39 M5!

For me... Transferred to a different college as a junior and 3 of my friends from home's random 4th roommate happened to have a 92 325is that he had just painted so it looked super clean. After talking about cars a bunch he asked me to be DD one night and "you can take my car" he said. After that I knew exactly what car I was going to purchase next. bought black with dove grey 97 328is... loved it drove it for 4 or 5 years, as it got to higher mileage (165k) I knew I had to sell it before people wouldn't want it. I knew the next logical step was to get an e46 with reasonable mileage. Got a good deal on a 01 330Ci and this one has been awesome as well. Not sure what's next...
