Its more the rust, but there is millions of little white spots on the hood from 14 years of country driving (previous owners).. I just thought getting the lot done would be best for the car. Then again, I did a diy respray on my first car (ford escort) 15 years ago.

Is that front or rear arches? the spots on bonnet are easy with products suggested if rust any where else (which is normal body rust and not eaten) there is a product that you can use and it turns rust to metal, and can fill / prime / paint within 15mins of use, and it works good. My bonnet had a big chip down to metal and gone rusty i used the product then filled and sanded now primed and painted just need to sand again. If that is front arch wings cheap enough to replace and may find one in your car colour and with some elbow grease get it all shiney to match (or near as damn it anyway)

This is the product, Halfords sell it if one in Athlone "Hammerite Kurust"

Ah that's a shame, I might of popped to york to meet yas for a bit.

I was wondering something. . . .

Do u think I will b able to grind my rear arches out? I need them rolling but there's a bit of rust starting to develop and I thought rather than getting the whole arch changed then rolling them I cud just grind the rust off and therefore create the space I need all in one go?

Front, but the rear are starting to show signs of rust too, and other various places like below the doors.

I think I will take you advice and try a diy job on it. micksgarage.com has a good paint prep kit I can buy for 29.99 and a spray can of matching black for about 0.00, just need to find out which black mine is (either 668 or 303)..

So with the hammerite from halfords, some body filler, the prep & primer kit and the paint from micksgarage.com , I suppose I could give it a shot without having to replace the wing.. anything will look better than the rust that's there lol The last time I tried putting a new wing on a car I couldnt get it to sit right and it looked bad, so I reckon going with repairing it instead could be a better option for me.

If your going to attempt wing mate get some fibreglass (i think it is) can mold the wing into right place then, as that is going to be a job and a half.

EDIT: Paint code should be on right strutt under bonnett (mayneed to clean it)

Doing it yourself you likely to be more careful and do a good job i think, i am doing bonnet and so far have a patch i tested on and its better than the rest of it.
