whats the best e30 engine swaps out there?

i have a chance to pick up a 1986 red e30 325 that needs some tlc. the seats are torn and need to be replaced and the motor runs with 144k miles. the nice thing is the body is in great shape with no noticeable rust on any panels.

im thinking of buying it to save it from a junkyard and making it a nice project car.

can you guys give me some engine ideas and aprox cost.

thanks

it its a 325is then there is no need for an engine swap. those engines are great. but i would suggest boost before engine swap. again they are great little motors.

S50 is where you wanna go 95 m3 motor. There are several places you will find info on doing such a swap. You'll need to decide on what you want as far as a final product.

Motors from an e36 are typical as mentioned above. From what I've read you'll want one with OBD1.

Agreed on all points but mainly you need to decide what you want from the E30. If your staying NA M20 is a tank, get a good chip a good tune up. You'll get used to the ticking valves that are noisy. The M50 (E36) would not be much different power wise unless you boost . M54 would be sweet. GL with whatever you decide.

leaning towards a m54 but that would have to be one tight fit.

If your not a member, become one. This thread has allot of info. The M54 is probably easier to fit than the M50/52 only because of the brake booster/intake manifold clearance.Read it and send your questions to him. He has some parts that make it a little more plug and play.

My Ride: hates potholes
I have a friend in the middle... well about 90% through an m60 swap w/ a six speed.

just... if you upgrade the motor: please, please, please upgrade the breaks. I'm told that you can even get e46 front stuff to work... imagine a car that weighs ~700 lbs less than a 330 with those rotors....mmmmm

S52 OBD1 TRM or Turner tune w/ 24lb injectors, bimmerworld silicone boot and a good filter. Swap the diff to a 3.25 lsd or 3.73 lsd if the car comes with an "open" diff.

E21 or Treehouse modified brake Booster, E28 Tranny mounts and E34 6 cylinder motor mounts.....OR just call up AKG motorsports and order from there fantastic collection.

The car may be toooo much fun when all is said and done. Just saying'

Enjoy.
