Time for a new credit card

So I graduated in May, have my full time job, and am cutting the strings to the family. Next thing to go is the credit card

I have a Visa card through BB&T, but the rewards kinda suck. Right now, I'm deciding between AMEX Blue Cash Everyday or Blue Cash Preferred.

I am also debating on a second card with rotating cashback categories to max my rewards year round. Right now, Discover IT and Chase Freedom cards.

I have excellent credit, so that shouldn't be an issue. All will be paid off each month.

Which card should I get? Should I get multiple? How many is too many?

Avoid any card with an annual fee. Beyond that, find the one with a rewards program that you will benefit the most from http://www.creditcards.com/reward.php

I have an American Express Cash (they don't offer it anymore, now it's blue cash and preferred something) as my primary and Chase Freedom Signature as my "oh... you don't accept American Express here?" card. I am happy with both.

Chase Sapphire has a good rewards program. I'll probably upgrade my AMEX to a Gold at some point. But I'll have another person on my card (i.e., wife) so it may make more sense.

has anybody had any experience with Discover IT? In a perfect world I'd get that and amex blue cash everyday, but chances are if somebody doesn't take amex they won't take discover either.

If you want the Amex then pick up a visa or mc. Discover is hit or miss sometimes with businesses accepting them.

Yeah I've been trying to pay closer attention to the places I normally shop.

Any thoughts on how many I could get away with? Possible AMEX, Discover IT for rotating 5%, and then my banks Visa/MC?

Why not get the Chase Freedom (VISA) with rotating 5% and an AMEX?

In reading reviews, Discover's rotating categories appear to be much more reliable when it comes to rewards. Many users have also pointed out how much better ShopDiscover is than Chase's equivalent. There is also the ethics standpoint, but this doesn't play as big of a role.

Discover is pretty much dead. I wouldn't even bother

I have BOA's cash reward card. Gives you 1, 2, 3% on everything, groceries, and gas, respectively. I also have the Chase Freedom. The combo of the two gives me lots of cash back. Nice thing about BOA is that the cash can be increased significantly if you deposit into a BOA account.

Capital one has great cards that give 1% too without foreign transaction fees. I use it when I travel.

Amex is a hit or mess. Membership reward points is a bit annoying. I only use Amex at Costco.

Does anybody have access to what Chase Freedom's online cashback rewards are for online retailers? Discover advertises theirs here: https://www.discover.com/credit-card...pdiscover.html and they look fantastic

I have a Chase Mileage Plus Preferred card. Excellent card if you enjoy traveling. Just by spending some cash for some more go-fast parts on my MR2, I have two free domestic flights now. I was going to spend the cash either way, but might as well be rewarded for it. For 1 year, there is 0% APR and if you get preferred instead of explorer, there is no annual fee. If you prefer cash back, go with Discover IT, they always have options such as "5% cash back for gas for 3 months" then "5% cash back for home improvment" etc... not a bad card in my opinion. If your credit is good and you have no debt or very little, you shouldn't have any issue getting better versions of the cards you mentioned.

I got the Amex Blue Cash Everyday card. My previous amex was linked with my parents, and their warranty claims came through in a huge way and customer service was awesome. I'm still debating on what to do for another card, but as of now it's not too close to holidays so no big offers are floating around that I've seen.
