hi thank you to eds etc for the hospitality. i live i western canada(red deer) and recently purchased a very well cared for1999 328i that is rapidly becoming my dream car. First day i had it i encountered a problem that i now know is far from unique. Damn fan started and won't stop. Any and all advice gratefully accepted. have an appt with a european mechanic next week but don't wanna remortgage my house to pay for it. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Welcome. Which fan are you referring to? The blower motor for the a/c system or the aux fan in the front

the aux fan i guess. right at the front. its connected to a 4 prong plug just left(facing the car)of the radiator. I'm not sure where a/c fan is. will it damage anything if i operate it sparingly without it ?
