New Bookshelves/Cabinet Project-Pics

Recently bought a place that was already largely renovated. We did however want to increase the LR storage by adding cabinets to either side of a FP. See pics of project below:

Here is original:

I'll post up some pics when cabinet pulls arrive and when we have the shelves filled with books/pics/etc. I'm really happy with the work and finished product.

PS Sorry bout the Iphone pics...

Outside wall not insulated?
Are the fans pulling in or pushing out air?

Nice setup

Nice work. My fireplace has similar shelves on either side, so at some point I'll be doing the same thing. I'm far from a carpenter though and I know my limitations.

Thank you.

Its a townhouse so the cinder blocks are between us and the unit next to us.

They push air out. There is about a six inch space from floor to ceiling between teh back of the cabinet/bookshelf and the cinder block ( AC tube did not let us go all the way back w/ the cabinets). The idea was to allow the hot air to exaust into that space.

Seems to be working well now but I'm monitoring temps to see how well.

I wish i could say I did the work myself. I was more like the annoying apprentice following my carpenter around...
