Head Unit Pictures

People please show me your head unit set up. I been searching though forums and google endlessly but still have not found any pictures of what an aftermarket set up will look like in an E46. Im looking for any recommendations of what head unit to upgrade too, I am looking for a single din unit as they require less messing about to install and to be honest are the cheaper to buy. From what I read if you don't change the cage, the head unit will sit off centre, I believe, if im correct, that you can purchase a central bezel though BMW for a symmetrical look

Im looking to replace my BMW Business head unit as the CD player does not want to work when I want it too. Every now and then it wont play no cds, and will show the message "CD ERROR" on the screen. I like the factory look but i cant find a decent E46 replacement head unit for no less than 100, and to be honest with that I can buy a new head unit with better functionality. I prefer listening to CD's but do not want to have a CD changer installed in the rear as I am considering adding a sub later in the year.

Thanks!

Thanks for the speedy response guys! The double din dies look more natural but cant fit that in my budget. Looks too flash for where i park my car at work too dont want no 1 having a reason to smash my window lol. Loving the alpine head unit though. Seen that same one in a few cars and it really does the business. Defo looking to get a single din unit as i can remove the face. Does anyone have a centrally positioned set up though, becasue when i do upgrade i want the centered look. Not a huge fan of the offset one.

Can anyone recommend a good head unit by the way. Been looking at the pioneer ones but alpine looks good too. Want it to look as natural as possible. Love to see pictures of the set up too. Have a budget of about 100-150. Dont think i need to upgrade the speakers yet as they do sound pretty good at the moment, have a feeling the rears need to be changed soon though.

If you gonna keep stock speakers then any decent head unit will work from pioneer or alpine unless your gonna get higher quality speakers down the road. As for making it sit flush i dont know how to do that. The offset doesnt look that bad at all to me.

There is an adaptor plate that is centered for the radio out there. Just do a little searching and I'm sure you'll find it. Any installer guys will 98% of the time use the offset plate just because thats what metro and the other big companies supply them with.

I don't know if they make radios like this anymore, but I have an older alpine (from like 2000) that has the option to adjust the face to different angles in my Camaro. If you get one like that you can just adjust the angle to match the dash and will probably look a little more flush.

Thumbs Up

Hey there,
Here's the install job I did myself on a single DIN. I was having a heck of a time getting the radio to fit in with the wiring harness included here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003U8LNJ6/

But then I finally figured out that you have to take out the whole vent apparatus above the radio and shove the big harness piece up to the left.

After that it worked pretty good. I love my Pioneer head unit with AUX, USB, and Bluetooth. Mostly listen to phone music through BT, while also getting the GPS voice and phone calls on my car speakers.

Note: This particular Head unit, you can adjust the RGB values of the LED lights, so I have since made it a perfect match to the Amber Cluster Lights.
