Hi guys , have a continual problem with exhuast fumes when moving and windows are opened.Took to BMW for inspection 2 ,whist there they checked car fully over and whilst they smelt it ,could not rectify .i took the car to a exhaust specialist who advised full exhaust system is sound .The car has only 35000 kms since new .i also replaced rear boot seal as I could smell the fumes there

Can you advise where I can go and get my M3 sorted .i live in the inner city area, many thanks.

Hi and welcome

Are you sure it's exhaust fumes and not burning oil? The E46 has known issues with valve cover gasket leaks, oil filter housing gasket leaks and so on which could be oil seeping out and burning off as you drive. Just an idea... the smell is similar to wax burning. As far as workshops go, there are a few located close to where you are - Haberfield, Annandale (bottom of Johnston St) and others. Someone will chime in with names

What does it smell like? A rotten egg smell would be the cat. If the inside of your exhaust tips are carbon black its burning oil.

There is a great mechanic in St.Peters/Marrickville, who has both joined this board, serviced mine and just bought a E46 M3 for himself.

I always get my work done by Matt at Bimmertech in Balgowlah (near Manly) and I also go to BEMW in Castle Hill.
Both are very knowledgeable, honest and the best priced in Sydney if you need work done on your BMW.

Try them, you won't be disappointed.

Why don't you ship that car to me in Jersey and I will test drive it for you to determine if it is just a local problem where you live. No charge for my service.

Have you checked the CPV? Could be leaking oil from there. Common problem.

It may be running down the side of the engine and dropping onto ur hot exhaust causing fumes. Worth checking.

M3/CSL is pretty bullet proof for oil leaks otherwise.
