Another Suspension Question

Hi all,

I have a "clunking", for lack of a better term, noise coming from the front end. Steering feel is still very tight, front CAB's have been replaced, so i know those aren't the issue. No noise at higher speeds, but sub 30 mph when hitting bumps, potholes and large expansion joints(bridges), I hear a bit of clunk. I've looked at the struts, ball joints, rod ends, etc and cannot find the source. The noise seems to occur on compression of the suspension, not in rebound, but I am unable to replicate the noise by bouncing the suspension in the shop. When I lift the car off the ground, there is no sloppiness anywhere. I'm a bit beside myself, cause I know something is causing it, I just cannot find it. Any ideas would be welcome.

You should, you'll be able to hear something if nothing else. You will need to lift both front wheels off the ground to unload the sway bar before you'll feel anything by tugging on it.

I had a similar noise that developed and I had just recently replaced struts( Koni sport), mounts, fcabs, end links so I hoped it was not from those new components. Last night I got underneath to start checking everything for something loose. Turns out the strut retaining nuts which were new and properly torqued by me when installed had managed to come a bit loose. Not alot, but there was maybe a half turn of the nut to tighten it back up. It was just enough to allow the strut hat to knock as it compressed & rebounded. So, make sure to check the strut retaining nuts.

Hey all, just a follow-up. I put the car on the hoist the other day and sure enough, the sway bar links are wore. I've got new ones ordered and will be installing as soon as I receive them. As always, I appreciate the help!

^ You're in MN...where are you finding a lift to use? You work at a shop or something?

I have a good friend who has lift in his shop. He gave me keys and lets me use it at my leisure. I typically make sure I leave a few beers in the shop fridge. If he's busy on a project, another buddy, who has a large farming operation has a huge shop that's also available. It's nice to have the options besides my garage (which doesn't have HVAC) once the winter weather hits us!

How far south central? We talking Albert Lea, Mankato, or like Burnsville?

I hear ya, that'd be a hike... I used to live in the metro back in the 90's, but a farm kid at heart, so back in a more rural area suits me. No problem though, the offer stands.
