About to buy 330xi opinion?

Hey guys,

First post on the forum with soon to be many! I am looking everywhere within a 250mile radius of where I live looking for a 330xi automatic with sport package. I finally found one in the area and want to make sure it is a good price. A friend of mine just sold his 2002 330xi with sport for 5,500 with 225k on it, the car was spotless. The one i am looking at is a 2002 330xi steel gray with gray interior with 113k and the guy is asking 8,500. Got the guy down to 7k cash. The car looks super clean he stated new tires, new brakes done at bmw dealer. Said selling it because it was his wifes and they just got a new bmw. THe guy is retired and so I am thinking this car was babied. Asked him about all services as in OFHG and such. Stated everything was done. My biggest thing is that a I want to be able to basically try to break even as much as possible when the time comes to sell it. Like I said my friend had the same car, just sold it and then bought a 330ci m sport and its hot but I need a four door awd and do not want a 325. Just wanted to know opinions on price and such. Other than that thanks! Can't wait to be Bimmer for life!

Yeah thats the first thing i noticed with it. When I called the guy I was like any body issues, minor or not? I was like look like the hood alignment is off and He said that when he took the pic he had it popped earlier.

Would NEVER listen to anyone who said EVERYthing is done on a car. Get all records and cross reference all preventative maintenance.

Looks like a nice car and the price does sound good. Just got a '03 325xi with 106k for $6400. I got a car fax before I bought my car made me feel a lot more comfortable with my purchase. As long as this car runs good you wont be disappointed cant beat a all wheel drive bimmer!

nice car. its got the ZSP package, sport seats, wheel, other sporty things, too bad its an auto. I'd go for it for sure. I have the same car 2004, love it.

Be prepared to do some work. I've worked more on my 2004 330xi in the past year than any of the six BMWs i've owned before it. If the owner says it needs nothing, chances are he doesn't work on it himself. Almost every 330xi at that age could use something if not a lot.

Seriously though, the guy took a picture with the hood popped?

If he was too lazy to go and close the hood what makes you think he maintained his wifes car? I hate people like that, "yea everything is done, it's ready to go".
Find a manual car.

you said he is retired right? so chances are he took care of it, it better than buying from a younger guy who beats the crap out of it. it is 10 years old, almost so some maintenance are to be expected. I would buy it

Yeah def gonna pull the trigger. He is retired and it was his wife's car. Said brand new tires and brakes just done by his local bmw dealership where he just bought a new one for his wife. He said he bought the car certified used. Just wanted to know everyone's opinion because he is 4 hours away from me. Just gonna go down and see him and drive it check it all over and then pull the trigger!

"Needs nothing" probably means he waits until something fails. Preventive Maintenance is not his thing. Need to check out the car carefully.

It will need all the standard stuff, Front, Rear Diff, Transfer Case fluids. More than likely full control arms, secondary ball joints and a complete cooling system. Plugs, VGC, O2 Sensors, Fuel filter, pump.

Plan at least $2000 minimum in parts if you DIY to make it perfect.

^ This.

I would never buy a car that says "needs nothing" in the post or doesn't at least go over what's wrong with the car, even if it's something minor.

Unless that car has never been driven since it left Germany, there's something wrong with it.

If you want to be really through I'd spend $150 at a indy or BMW For a PPI. May save your $$$1000's
