M3 key fob

Gentlemen,

Right after a car wash I notice my fob no longer opens / unlocks my car. It still locks ok using the centre button but won't unlock using the forward / front button. I'd contemplated getting a new one but the cost had put me off. It would seem I have no choice now, unless you are able to guide on a likely fix. I guess the battery is ok given it locks ok, so........

Appreciate your input.

Cheers,
Matt

Nope. I've had E46 key batteries close to flat and it does exactly this: Just locks and unlock & boot fails.

Canterbury BMW want $690 for a new one. Outrageous......

It seems crazy to me that you can't just replace the battery. Wondering if its possible to buy a new case (only), split the existing case, transfer the internals and replace the battery. Or would that be too simple.

I bought a new key from a dealer in the USA. See below for detail which I have copied from an earlier post.

"My new key has arrived. Genuine BMW Key with logo and IT WORKS PERFECTLY

I had to initialize both keys, which takes about 30 seconds and now I have 2 full function keys.

Total cost, including postage was US$140. Just so you know and don't panic, it took about 2 weeks to arrive via regular post.

I have contacted the dealer and he is happy to help any other Aussie BMW owners who need new keys (or any other spare parts).

If you are interested contact Ron Vose on this email: ron.vose@billdodgeautogroup.com

Payment can be made via PayPal on this email address: lloyd.chandler@bdag.com

When ordering you will need to provide your vin number, a scanned copy of drivers licence and rego.

See earlier posts in this thread for cost of valet keys.

I hope this is helpful to other forum members."
