PA: OEM Alarm activation not at dealer?

Hey guys I'm currently in the Philadelphia area and I've been calling around local BMW dealerships about alarm activation. They're asking $129 "if you've installed everything correctly". I'd like to know if shops other than BMW would have the program to activate the sensor, or even if someone with a scanner has the ability to help me out at a lower cost. Thanks.

Most standard dealerships will charge you 1hr worth of labor even though all they do is plug in your car to a computer. I was cool with my service manager and he charged me 1/2hr labor. It sucks but price you pay.

Good Luck!

I can do it if you are going to MPact for $50. Plus I will add a few more options.

Unfortunately I will not be going to MPact, would've been very interested with other program options. What a shame...

Alarm Activation Options

Hello: I'm on the West Coast (San Diego) and I have a 2004 E46 M3 convertible. It has every option BUT an alarm (the original owner did not believe in alarms for convertibles). I've seen on the forum that even without the alarm installed, activating the alarm allows you to set the Clown Nose to flash, corner lights flash, etc. on locking. I don't want to pay $700+ for the full alarm (since it is a convertible), I just want to have the non-siren options programed. I don't mind paying for the activation and programing, but every dealer I've talked to insists that they are prevented by BMW policy from doing this. None of the independents I've talked to have done this before, and they don't have the GT1 programer, just "a more modern version". The car is currently perfect and I don't want it screwed up. Could you/someone please provide a list of various (light, etc.)options that are available for programing and identify the specific codes? THANKS!!! PS: I've seen GT1 cables and programing CDs advertised rather inexpensively on Ebay; are they any good?

There is a list of programable options over at that other forum.

You can find everything you need to program here. A little reading will be required.

There are people in your area that can program / code. Ask in your regional forum. Try your local "Cars & Coffee" (if your locale has one).

IMPORTANT QUESTION! If you activate the "alarm system" without an alarm installed, and you choose to have the lights flash if the car is disturbed, will the "alarm" turn off after some (selectable?) period of time? Or will it keep flashing until the battery dies?

The car will do nothing if disturbed. It will only flash on lock and unlock.
