Question Escort Max or Passport 9500ix Radar Detector?

Anyone here try the new Max? It looks cool but I've read a few complaints about the size and sound issues.

Yes, the best defense is driving within the speed limit....

Yes, a radar detector doesn't protect you 100%...

bla bla bla

Neither. Get a V1 or Redline.

Max still has a ton of issues as per the users on my RD forum and the 9500 is just pure garbage. Misses many alerts and just plain sucks.

I have a hardwired Passport Max with the Escort Live, while still trying to figure out why it is not connecting via iPhone app, the basic function of the radar I do like more already than my previous 9500ix. The Max offers an 'Auto noX' band function that makes it more convenient to not produce any false alerts. The 9500 did save me in a couple accounts but in some cases did not provide warning before it would have been too late, had I not visually seen the speed trap.

I just use my eyes, never have gotten a speeding ticket. Though on long trips a V1 would definitely help prevent eye fatigue...

Nope, which is why eventually I will buy one. Though if other cars are getting hit with radar chances are you will see them all hitting their brakes, regardless if they are even speeding or not, letting me know in advance I need to slow down.

What's wrong with the 9500ix? It has way less false alerts because of the GPS feature, no?

thanks for the PM. I plan on getting the triple blinder HP905 with this radar purchase, so I guess it really comes down to sensitivity and basic radar detection.

With technology these days, you'd think that all radar detectors would be optimal with regular radar/detection range, since a lot of officers are using laser. My concern about the V1 is that it's "old", as in not keeping up with the times? or are the internals updated on a semi annual or yearly basis?

With Escort models, I like the option of connecting the radar to a computer to update the firmware, whereas V1 requires a shipping/time delay or is this no longer the case?

Also, the company, Escort was recently purchased by an investment firm. This makes me question their overall customer relations in the future. Will it be better? or worse?

I'd also like to point out that the Max is NEW, so will it be better than the V1 and other versions in a month from now? A lot of people are saying it needs constant updates, just like other escort models have and even the V1.

The v1 is not "old" in the sense that you are buying technology from the 20th century. If you have the latest updated firmware from V1, you have a detector that sees everything. Mine goes off when audi's with lane assist are around, or GM taillights sometimes trigger the laser warning. Trust me, it sees it all. IT takes some getting used to, but it is well worth it.

Many people think the false alarms are a bad thing. I look at them as a great thing. See, with my V1, I get a false alarm on the highway, every time I drive between these two exits, coming up to a bridge. It is a secluded area, with nothing around, and you can see the road for at least a mile. It is always K band, and always comes on about 1 mile before a light up sign. I know it is a false alarm, and mute it instantly. But, when a cop is sitting there, shooting Ka Band at us, using the k band as a mask or even worse, a K band with theK band as a mask, many people would write that off as a false alarm, and continue speeding. I didn't, and I have never had a speeding ticket since getting a V1 3 years ago.
