Good Deal???

I could use a little insight from the e46 gurus.

I came across a 2003 M3 TiAg / gray with the smg trans for sale locally. The car has 101k mi and the seller is asking $10, 500.

Went for a 20-30min ride and the car pulls very strong with no discernable issues from the trans.

The good:

Bearing recall done in 2009
Consistent service history, inspection I & II done. Last inspection was around 60k
Dsc/abs pump module replaced recently
Subframe checks out ok
19" ccw wheels ~50% tread on rears, fronts 80%
Fan clutch and coolant overflow tank replaced.
New differential from turner motorsports
Afe intake
Uuc/corsa exhaust

The bad:

5 owner vehicle
SMG pump has not been replaced
Driveahaft needs to be replaced (bad u-joint)
Interior is a bit worn (material peeling from a and c pillars, scuffs, general wear)
Front bumper needs a repaint
Window rubbers heavily deteriorated.
Could probably use a valve adjustment.

I would be selling my 2007 328i to make the switch and the m3 would become my primary transportation to work 2-3 days a week roughly 60 miles round trip.

I realize that it is a 10yr old car and will come with its issues, but I need it to be pretty reliable. I think it just needs a little tlc.

So what do you guys think? Go for it or hold off? Any other things to look for?

Thanks in advance!

First post so go easy on me.

Why would the SMG pump not being replaced be considered bad? 100% of what you read on the internet does not apply to your car so tread lightly when coming to conclusions. Same goes with the subframe. A lot of it is just preventative stuff.

With the mods he has on, the asking price seems fair.

I was unsure wether or not to list the smg pump as a bad thing, just seems like a fair amount go out around the 100k mark. Although it probably gets blown out of proportion since the majority of people who post are experiencing problems.

Thanks for the quick response.

its good that inspection I and II have been completed, thatll save you some money, get a PPI done still if you already havent, but it sounds like a pretty good deal.

Great Price... I just bought an 02 SMG with 108k for 11.5k and thought that was a steal!

Some of the things I did:
window trim: about 50$
the front windshield cowl: 60$
SMG and Fuel Solenoid: 30$
Oil Change: 110$
Interior is mostly DIY with some adhesive

My car has been fine so far and only does track duty, about 2000 miles so far.

The last inspection being done 40,000 miles ago isn't that great of a sign.

That's kind of how I feel. It could have been done again as the owner before the current owner brought the car to a well known indy shop in the area. He (indy shop owner) didn't seem too willing to go through the entire service history over the phone.

Ppi came back ok. Looks like the car needs bushings all around and could use new shocks. Tires are worse than I thought since the car was lowered without any camber adjustment. Also, I thought the previous owner had a valve adjustment done around 60k, but evidently it wasn't done.

I think I'm going to hold off on this one. If I wasn't going to need to depend on it for work I'd be more inclined to pull the trigger. Hopefully someone will pick her up and give her a good home. Thanks for the feedback guys.

you can change that to coil overs, no more thank $2500.00

tires depending on what your shooting for, no more than $1000.00

just do inspection II thats around $1000-1300.00

so thatd be roughly around an extra $5000.00
