Unhappy Still need Help PA Soft 1.4.0

Hello once again, So I tried the wire jump and it worked at first, Battery died on laptop. Went to try it again and now nothing. Scans for IKE and EWS cannot connect. tried my buddies laptop and same. Uninstalled program and drivers, re-installed and forgot to do the wire jump, connected but no ZKE adjustments. tried the jump and know it says cannot connect to IKE and EWS. Orange light is on and constant Green flashes fast and sometimes slow. Looked inside saner and 1 & 2, 7 & 8 are soldered. I am using XP Pro, and in the settings the USB port is active. Is it possible my scanner is bad? or am I compleatly nuts. I know some people have had troubles scanning early e46's but how can it work once and then not?

My Ride: Searching...
I have 20 pin connector that I bought it 3 years ago to use for INPA. I think I should be able to use it for the PA Soft as well, isn't it?

Thanks.

I'm having some problems updating the drivers... Also using XP, download the setup executable file from FTDI website, extract the files and then it installs the drivers to my PC but I can't choose a location and I can't even find them using the search function once they are installed.

So when I try to update the drivers, I can't tell the computer what location to search if I don't know it, nor can I browse to the file and select it. After searching the net, I can't seem to see anyone else has had this same problem, everyone says just click Have Disk, point it to the file and off you go.. but everyone else seems to know where their drivers are installed..

Hoping someone can help, have spent hours on this and it's getting real frustrating.

Cheers

If you are extracting files you have a zip file. You should be downloading the executable file at the bottom of the FTDI page. Follow these directions exactly. I did this last night and have it working on my Windows 8 computer with no problems at all.

Go to http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm and scroll down to the box with listing of drivers of different operating systems. Since we're doing windows, I'm only covering that. The 1st row shows windows. All the way at the right hand side, under comments, you'll see "setup executable". You can download the drivers themselves but this thing does it all for you. Much easier. Once downloaded, install it. A black DOS like window pops up and installs it. The box usually disappears in like 5 seconds.

Once done, go to control panel, then device manager and right click on bmw scanner (usually under other devices) to select update driver software.

Select the option "Browse my computer for driver software". Then pick Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. Select towards the bottom "Universal serial bus controllers. On the next screen, on the left hand side under manufacturer, look for FTDI. When you click on it, to the right, select USB Serial Converter. Then click next. A message will pop up saying armageddon will reign down upon you and your computer if you install this and it isn't compatible. I decided to go for it and take the risk. Once installed, open up your bmw scanner software and start messing with all your options.

Have fun!

you have windows xp, it's literally the easiest OS to install. just run the software and it'll do the install.

This still isnt working for me, I have read through these instructions tens of times trying to see where I went wrong. I download the setup executable for XP, the black box pops up disappears (and now I assume the drivers are on my computer, yet I don't know their location.

So when I try to update the drivers in Device Manager, I can't point the PC to the right location.. I'm going mad. God help me.

Then you didn't follow the directions correctly. Reread the last paragraph again, and follow it EXACTLY. Read each step as you're doing it. If you do it correctly, you never have to find the location of the drivers because you're picking from a list.

yeah iono what you are doing wrong. I've installed this on my surface pro 3 when it had windows 8, 8.1, and 10. It's super easy. I don't think I follow the OP's instructions though.

This is what I use (from bimmerforum):

So the first thing is to download this driver:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/..._Certified.zip

then extract it, I like using 7zip never have a problem with it.

Next you have to go to device manager:
1. Click start button, right click on computer and hit manage. (Sorry if you already know how to do this, just going step by step in case you dont)

2. Click on Device manager and scroll to Universal Serial Bus controller.

This is the weird part, I did it on two computes, for one of the computers this next step caused on of my usb ports to stop working, so its a gamble, however on my other computer nothing weird happened.

3. Next chose one of the USB Root Hubs and right click and then Update driver.

4. Then browse my computer for driver software

5. Choose let me pick from a list of device drivers

6. Then chose "Have Disk"

7. Browse to where you extracted the above file and select ftdibus and hit ok.

8. From the list I choose usb serial convert A and click install

9. Just click ok through all the prompts win7 throws your way.

10. Turn off your internet, then plug BMW scanner into car and then into computer. Win7 will say it cant install device

11. Go back to device manger and find BMWscanner that should have a yellow ! next to it. Right click, update driver and install the same driver you did for the first usb hub. It might error out. Open up BMWScanner software and it should know show up that drivers installed and connected to car!
For the drivers though, I use the link in Overboost's post to find the right drivers for the OS that I'm installing it in. I use the executable which is easier to install.

So for Windows it would be this link currently:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM21224_Setup.zip

I always install the BMW Scanner 1.4 thing first though. It'll give me the yellow box saying driver's aren't installed yet. Then I follow those instructions and do the driver install and then when I re-open the app, it's good to go.
