I'm pretty sure that after looking at the damage he decided that there was no way for him to write an accurate appraisal right there and wants the body shop to do it.
But he should have told you what his plan was and what to expect.

Looking at the damage after the accident I was thinking total loss. The unibody is all bent. The suspension is pushed in aswell. I'm afraid of future problems because of the weakened area of the car. Control arm mounts are hit with stress when impacted. The metal under the bent fender is all bent. The strut mount has shifted causing the wheel to rub against the coil spring. Bumper is half gone, the headlight is broken and my passenger door is damaged as well. Then blending (half of the car has to be painted) and labor costs has to be well over $4k even $5k.... Prefacelifted e46's nowadays aren't worth more than $6k.

No, but i have all my factory parts to swap out if she's totalled. If I bring my car to the bodyshop for a further look and then she gets totalled because of the costs. How the hell would I remove my aftermarket parts...

if it totals, just let them know you have aftermarket parts that you want to remove, and that you have the factory parts to put back in.

On the details page of the appraisal is says that my replacement bumper will be a sport bumper with oval fog lights. The car never came with a sport bumper so that's cool but what sport bumper? M-tech 1 or 2? hmm...

Re: **OFFICIAL** Ask an insurance adjuster anything...

Hey nova a few questions.

-So ill be towing my car to the body shop on monday and my insurance is sending me the check this week. Do I give the check to the body shop when I get it or do I have to give them a call to send it back? I don't wanna pocket anything. I just want my car how it was before the accident.

-If they find more damage can they possibly total it?

-On the appraisers notes is says that body labor is $37 an hour which is ridiculously low. Will that be adjusted to the shops rates?

-Can I negotiate on not replacing some parts that they want to replace?

My passenger side coil and headlight because the coils fine and the headlight bracket broke. (Can be fixed by glue)

-They added to replace my rim with a random style 32 wheel. Can I also deny it because I have my vmrs on and I'm not to worried about it because they needed to be refinished anyways.

Just hand the check over to the shop, they'll take care of the rest. If the shop needs a higher labor rate ($37 is probably about right for body labor, it's significantly lower than mechanical labor, make sure your car goes to a body shop)

If you don't want something fixed, just talk to the shop about taking that amount off your deductible.

I just got my estimate today. $4700 before deductable for a few dents in my A pillar, scratched mirror, roof, and door, and a quarter panel and taillight that needs replacing. I had the same damage in my ZHP and they ended up doing it for $8600. This estimate is significantly lower and I cannot figure it out.

29 hours of sheet metal
15.7 hours of refinish

1222 in parts
471 in paint and materials

Labor sounds right, but its only $48 an hour. Is this estimate even right?

take it to the shop.

$48 an hour sounds right for body labor.

I just got an e-mail saying that my car is totalled. On the e-mail they told me to call them so they can bring it to their lot. Can I request that I tow it home so I can swap out my aftermarket for my factory parts? I really hope I can. There's no way in hell that I'm going to throw money out like that.

That was the first assessment of the damages. After the second look it was a lot more money in damage.

Lesson learned: never settle by taking a check based on their first assessment.
I can swear that they do it on purpose.
I've never had an assessment that didn't need a supplemental check.
I have my tin foil hat on: I think that the appraisers are evaluated not based on how accurate they assessment is (or how little supplement they have to issue), but by how low ball they can settle the claim.

I'm not going to explain the process again, I've done it a dozen times in this thread. The sad thing is that other people might read this and believe you, having zero clue why you're wrong and paranoid.
