My Ride: 2000 323i
Multiple Fault Codes 323i

So I finally got my head gasket replaced on my 2000 323i automatic, and its been throwing codes like nobody's business. The list, in no particular order, is as follows:


I did a little research and found that the 170's are related to the fuel trim level, the 1188 and 1189 are fuel control, and the 300's are all misfires. I plugged my laptop in and had my buddy drive around while I read all of the diagnostic info, only to find that both O2 sensors would have faults that would put the car in to open loop fuel maps, which I suspect leads to the power issues that I have and the rough idle problems as well. Am I wrong in assuming all of this to be related to the O2 sensor? Or is there something else I should look into as far as the codes I am having? I would have thought there would be a code indicating something to be wrong with the O2 sensors. Thank you in advance for the help!

Are O2 sensors plugged in properly?

Easy way to check, unplug one sensor, see what code is triggered and make sure it is the correct Bank.

Also check for vacuum leaks as well.

sounds like something is unplugged or really throwing something off like timing but either way probably has something to do with the headgasket change and as far as o2 causing this I wouldn't think so. you could check fuel trim pressure level I don't get but make sure the harnesses are all plugged into the fuel injectors right and that the plug in front is plugged in and one in middle plugged in to intake mani
