Installing AUX input into my E46 BMW

I'm looking to install an aux input into my 2001 BMW 330xi. I have the Business CD, Harman Kardan sound system, and am wondering what is the most effective, best sounding, not very expensive way to go ahead and install the aux input. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks alot.

just get teh aux cable sold at your BMW dealer's parts counter. it's very easy to install, not very expensive, and can be put anywhere.

Ok, just making sure you guys understand I have a 2001 E46 .. I'm reading alot about how the OEM aux input is for radios 09/02 and newer, how do I know exactly which one will fit my system. I'm trying to avoid BMW dealerships as always.

it depends, what month of 2001 is your BMW? It's something like the later half of the 2001 year can use the OE aux cable for their radios.

Took your advice called BMW ordered the oem aux input it fits my car according to my VIN, thanks guys.. Hope it works. I am confused at the fact that I don't have a Mode button on my system, so how will I select the AUX mode? If you see my pictures you will see what I'm talking about.

I can also make you a cable for $10. You just need the updated cd player built after sep of 2002. Sw version of 43 or higher.

it's not going to work if you don't have a mode button. You need something like the gromaudio.com device which looks like a cd changer to the radio. I have 2001 also and the gromaudio.com usb is the way to go.

For you the best option would be a new headunit. Replace your stock one with a new one that has an aux option. Or you can purchase a bmw headunit, you need one that was made after sept 2002, if u go with this option you can just purchase an adapter that plugs into the back of the headunit. I just did this to mine, it was really simple!!

I just need some clarification (don't mean to be that guy...but), I have a 2002 M3 with the Business CD unit, it DOES have the 'mode' button. That being said, the genuine BMW auxillary input kit will be compatible with my car? If so, I'll go ahead and order it!

Installing AUX input into my E46 BMW

Awesome! I'd love to see pics. I snapped this pic of my car and the manufacture date is 9/01? Were they referring to September 2001, or September 1st of 2002? lol

We offer a range of iPod integration products that will work with your vehicle, the Soundplicity being the cheapest option which will act similarly to an Auxilary input, but will keep your iPod or iPhone charged, as well as allow you to go forward and backwards tracks via your steering wheel and radio buttons once you are on a playlist Please let me know if you have any questions!
