I've heard that nearly every CHP office (except us of course) get their officers certified pretty quick, but I've been on 4 years in Feb and I've never gone to the class.

Then, we have to do another I think 16 hour class of lidar which I think is even easier (point and shoot).

So I started watching breaking bad and even though I'm only on season 1...man I can see why people loved this show. So good

There was another vehicle right next to me

Sounds ............ lacking...

request dash cam footage through the public records act or whatever it is
show that there was a car next to you
cast reasonable doubt

but then again, the footage could just bury you as well

Do motorcycle cops have dash cams pointing with the camera (red)?
He was sitting sideways with a gun pointed at me, I was in the left, car next to me and he was in the far right under a bridge.

Oh it was lidar then. Radar picks up the fastest car going by. Lidar is a single laser that we point at your vehicle to determine your speed. Dood you're not going to win. If it was indeed lidar then you were going 90. Maybe +/- 1-2 mph

Re: ***(Socal General Chat)***

Hey red you missed my question. If you dont feel like answering that is fine no hard feelings i wont hold it against you (unless you want me to ).

Notes on radar: Radar is not extremely accurate there is training that should be done with it as it does not work in all scenarios. Other vehicles on the road can cause missreadings the angle at which the cars speed is captured also plays a roll. Radar equipment as a general rule should be calibrated everyday and documented.

Options for Chad:
You can request all documention regarding the equipment and officer pertent to your case. Such as equipment calibration logs. Equipment manuals. Officer certification log. Vehicle certification log (speedometer calibration). Any notes from the officer for the incident. If they fail to provide these in a timely manner before the case you can ask to have the case dismissed You can use the logs to contest equipment was not acurate at the time of the incident. You can say officer wasn't properly trained on equipment. By getting his notes on the incident you pretty much know what he does about the case and what he will say incourt. Find any week points. Was there any other veicheles next to you does he have that as a note. Did you also pace you after his lidar check. Did he estimate then check you with pace and lidar. When was the vehicles last speed calibration and how often should it be recalibrated. The officers logs should state the last time he was trained for estimation. Etc...
Now If the officer does not provide the notes (he may not have any or claim he does not) he cannot use any during court. Again grounds for dismissal. If the judge is a hard ass denying your motion to dismiss evidence or case, and you loose the case. You can aquit the trial because the judge did not follow the rules.
Acquittals are not retrials of the case, they are reviews of the court proceedings that can dismiss the judgement based on misconduct in court only. ex; They do not review evidence, they only review if it was properly handled.

often requires two appearances, especially in LA courts

first of all, you save time
and time is money, time is irreplaceable
you gotta go to work? got school? pick up your kids? go out of town? just don't want to spend possibly half a day in court waiting?
then hire someone to go for you

also there are people who just don't want to be around courts or police officers any more than absolutely necessary
it's a stressful situation for many people
there are people with immigration issues, maybe a warrant for another matter, just don't like cops, etc.

and hiring a lawyer can very likely get you a much better outcome than you could have gotten on your own
of course there are instances where you can get the same or better on your own
but if you were to look at the results of thousands of tickets, the ones with lawyers probably have much better outcome

so even if you paid a lawyer and the lawyer was only able to negotiate a slightly lower fine so that you end up paying about the same as you would have without the lawyer, you end up way ahead because you saved the time it took to do that
that's actually not to bad when you think of if that way. my concern would be if nothing got knocked off then id pay the full fine and a lawyer. How do you handle the cases? do you plead to lessen the fines or do you fight for not guilty?

Also do you take any traffic cases if the defendant admits guilt to you but would still like try to fight the ticket? if so how do you approach these cases do you try to win on technicalities?
