Sorry, I missed that in your previous post! I'd say you found your culprit. You'll have to take it in.

Hmm. I think my next step is going to be to take it to a local Indy to see it they can properly diagnose and go from there. I'd rather not throw expensive parts at the problem if I don't know for sure that it's going to fix it.

You're in the wrong thread. If you're talking about the M3, ask in the M3 forum.

I'm really confused as to what the issue is then. You're saying you went to 3 dealerships, they said only some M56s have the warranty, and they turned you away because you have an M56?

Unless you're outside of the 15/150k or somehow voided your warranty, you're covered. From the experience of others on the forum, you're even covered if you're not in the state of original purchase. I've never heard of a dealership saying such a thing. They're feeding you a line.

We didn't even get that far (mileage etc). They asked for my vin, then said they checked it in the bmwna database and my vehicle showed no active warranties. I asked again about the emissions warranty, they said ANY warranty. All 3 dealerships said the exact same thing.

No point in arguing with them if I don't know for a fact that's my actual problem. I was just asking for information and they have me a stern no

They tried doing the same thing when I brought mine in. I argued with them and eventually pulled out the TIS stating that the M56 was covered for 15/150k. Instantly their attitude changed and they said "we'll research it and get back to you." 3 days later they told me it was covered.

Click the link in my signature for the warranty handbooks. You'll find the 2004 SULEV specific warranty handbook there. Print it out and bookmark pages 28 and 36. Page 28 explains that all SULEVs bought in California, Maine, Massachusetts, etc. are covered. Page 36 explains what is covered.

Do you guys think this is "bad" enough to warrant a fuel pump change...

also there's nothing wrong with my oil light correct? I did some searching but couldn't find anything about the red light staying on a teeny bit longer..

I see nothing wrong. It's normal for cold starts to take just a little longer because the fuel pump is designed to bleed off pressure at a controlled rate. Yours seems normal.

What's the noise towards the end of the video?

Looks like my CCV has failed. I'm going to have to schedule an appointment to bring it in. I'm losing 1/2 qt approximately every 2-3 weeks.

For you SoCal guys, if you are looking to have anything warranted go to Crevier BMW. They actually are very familiar with the M56 SULEV warranty and I was able to get my fuel tank replaced.....hassle free! BTW I was pushing 149K so I got it done just in time.

Gary Carrizosa - Service Advisor
(714) 835-1221

BTW - Dealerships get paid very well for this warranty replacement so those dealerships giving you crap are complete idiots. Another thing to note is that the warranty is paid by another company NOT BMW directly. What this means is that if you are just 1 mile over warranty you are out of luck.

yes!!,

My car just yesterday felt as if it was about to die after a cold start on about 1/8th of a tank. Drove straight to fill up and filled car up til the pump stopped. Fuel gauge only showed 80% full. Drove to BMW of murrieta and surprisingly they directed me to a guy who knew about this to a t. A day later fuel tank replaced for free and he said if as check engine light ever comes on again it would most likely be covered by the 15 yr 150k warranty! Drove it home tonight and felt like a different car. 69000 miles on it now and I swear they must've changed my exhaust or something because the car sounds amazing in low rpms!!!
